Is anyone having problems with Dictation in Yosemite?
I downloaded Yosemite, and have downloaded the Dictation update, but now it seems that dictation is not working and is continually capitalizing words as I dictate, causing more issues.

I found that I cannot dictate into LibreOffice either.
Hi,
I have just bought a new Macbook Pro and put Office for Mac 2011 on it - problem in Word solved. Having written to Apple as suggested in an earlier post but getting no reply it would be nice if Apple could fix the bug that means my copy of Office 2008 on my home Imac and Office 2010 on my work Imac have enhanced dictation without any issues. But I am a realist.
Just got off line with Apple support. My problem was similar as i could not use the dictation feature. Come to find out my problem was with the Webroot antivirus not allowing it. I had to go to the Webroot logo enter then Pause secure keyboard entry. Dictation back up and running well. Third party AV software causes lots of problems with Apples.
Hi Everyone,
The latest Yosemite update has solved my all my problems in Office for Mac problems.
Thanks to all the suggestions.
I have been having the same problem in LibreOffice. I have to say [spacebar] to get it to insert a space between two phrases, or a space before corrections. I have tried saying [no caps] to get it to stop capitalizing everything, but the [effect] is for it to insert "no" before capitalizing the next word.
I bought a new microphone, to try to improve word recognition, but sometimes it insists on putting in the wrong word again and again and again. Like with either capital A or hey for [a], affect for [effect], Matt for [map], etc.
I think it would help if dictation supported a wider variety of languages, and a wider variety of dialects of English.
Reply system malfunctioned again.
Wasn't able to delete or add languages, but am able to now. I don't know what if anything changed. I still think it's silly to group dialects this way.

To tell Apple this, go to this page (and be specific about what languages/dialects you want):
Thanks! Webroot was also causing my problems. Dictation works perfectly now, and I'm happy to be dictating instead of typing this.
Hi all
I've tried all your suggestions and I still haven't gotten dictation to work, ever. I see the mic registering sound in prefs, I hear the 'ding' when I choose 'start dictation'. I've switched languages, turned Dictation on and off, restarted, changed languages... Nada. I'm using TextEdit. Any other tricks out there?
I too am having that prob with yosemite and have a sr. advisor trying to find out why. Still no solution as of a few days ago reporting it last Friday
can someone tell me what web root is on yosemite and what to do to fix this dictation problem

Webroot is just another antivirus app which some people install on their machines. This stuff tends to cause problems, best not bother with it.
i tried doing with she or he said about d/l ng other languages but saw no gear icon either, but even in the word program which I don't use, it still made no difference. Still not working at all. Jeez you would think apple or someone would have a fix for this.
I fixed it by checking "Pause Secure Keyboard Entry" in my Webroot menu.
