Q: AirDrop Problems in iOS 8.1

I just installed iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 5s. When I try to turn on AirDrop for Contacts Only using the Control Center it either does not try to turn on or just asks for my iCloud password and then does nothing (i.e. stays turned off). If I select AirDrop for Everyone it sometimes turns on and sometimes does not.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Mike,

Do you have capital letters in your AppleID? I had a similar issue to yours and it seems like the root cause was from logging into iCloud with capital letters in my username (which happened to be my email address).

Hi, I had the similar issue minutes ago that my macbook air can not discover my iPhone 6, but either way works. Then I sent the name card of myself on the iPhone to my mac. After the mac had my upgraded contact info of the iPhone, they connected. So I guess the reason might lie in that both devices need to have the upgraded ID info of each other in the "Contacts". In my case, the wifi connection was the problem. I chose to forget the wifi password but did not turn off wifi on both devices. You could also switch of your router so your devices do not connect to it. Then, both devices could find each other easily.

I'm missing the blue writing at the bottom and the share menu extension is greyed out. Any ideas?
