I'm from Hyderabad, here we don't have LTE available. So what to do now..?

I want to access 3G only if required. But switching back to 2G is not the correct solution for me here.

    Hi!

Is it possible for 8.1 to set "LTE or below", like it was on 8? Back there it I switched LTE on, but phone could not find LTE, it switched to 3G or EDGE. Now it seems that if I select LTE in Voice & Data, and there is no LTE nearby, phone doesn't downgrade and becomes offline. So I need no manually switch to 3G or 2G. Very inconvinient. Does anybody else experience this?

    Same problem here

    No 2G /3G option

    Restarted/ hard reset my phone

    Model : Iphone 5s

My other friends got this after ios8.1 update.... not me

And those asking for why we need it, FYI , it saves battery whenever you need it. I dont want to use 4G when i am just chatting on whatsapp on go. 2G can serve well there and will save you from running out of battery............

I spoke to Airtel customer service and they seem to have no idea of such issues and told such LTE option in iphone has existed for a year now and wont change soon, so its better to switch away from Airtel for a while until they fix this. Im going to port my number.

    Hello to all.

NO carrier update needed To see the 2g 3G and 4g selection.

i have got a blackberry as well and it has the selection for 2g 3g 4g. Same carrier same SIM card Same data plan. Just different device in the same place same area.

SO I think it's apple problem.

    That's true.

I've tried the same SIM on Blackberry q10, nexus 5, nokia e71 - all these devices have ability to choose 2g-3g-4g (except nokia - there is only 2g-3g) and only iphone5s has trouble with some mythical carrier update.

Maybe Apple means that if you have non-4G sim, then you are now able to select 2G/3G

But if you have 4G sim, then 4G/3G selection is available only.

If it's true, I'm dissapointed. I personally do need 2G/3G/4G selection option!!!

i strongly feel its not the sim issue since i am a frequent traveller around the globe and use different country sim cards on my iPhone. Recently i have used a du sim on my iPhone and noticed that i had the option only to enable LTE and not 3G. On the same phone if i use the airtel sim i get the option for 3G and not LTE. Kindly not in both cases the phone/network/os is the same. The same airtel sim on iOS 8.1 is showing LTE but on iOS 7.1.2 is showing 3G. So i am sure tis not the issue of the sim. I personally feel the issue is with the carrier update, on the iOS 7.1.2 the carrier shows AirTel 17.0 but on iOS 8.1 it shows AirTel 18.0. If there is any possibility for getting 17.0 on 8.1 this should solve the problem or apple should come up with a 18.1 or something.

    Hello Everyone,

In India very few cities have LTE and the existing 3G coverage is not very good. So, to save battery and also for the obvious reason of getting a good reception on your phone we tend to stay on 2G and switch on enable 3G whenever required. This is how it went on for me:

    1. This is my phone's config initially before iOS 8:

    Model: iPhone 5

    Carrier: Airtel

    iOS Version: iOS 7.0.2

    Carrier Version: Airtel 16.0

    Enable 3G toggle: Available

    2. After upgrading to iOS 8.0/8.0.2:

    Model: iPhone 5

    Carrier: Airtel

    iOS Version: iOS 8.0.2

    Carrier Version: Airtel 17.0

Enable 3G toggle: Replaced with Enable LTE toggle

    3. After upgrading to iOS 8.1:

    Model: iPhone 5

    Carrier: Airtel
    iOS Version: iOS 8.1

    Carrier Version: Airtel 18.0

Enable 3G toggle: Replaced with list which enables the users to choose between 2G, 3G or LTE.

So, after upgrading to iOS 8.1 I am able to go back to 2G. I did hear from some users on Re: Getting 3G toggle back in iOS 8 - Solved

that this is not working for iPhone 6. I believe this has got to do something with the carrier update or an issue with intalling the iOS update. Apple should give an update if there is an issue with iOS 8.

Some users are posting here that this issue has got nothing to do with carrier but with iOS or Apple because they are able to see the option of selecting 2G/3G/LTE on their Nokia/Android/Blackberry devices. While this is true for rest of the devices it is not for iPhone. For iPhone this is very much dependent on the carrier version because that is how it works with iPhones. The carrier update decides if the toggle should be enabled or not. Weird and sad but true.

    Thanks,

    Rajeev.
