Oct 21, 2014 11:42 AM in response to vellknownby rajeevkvssp,There is a chance that Airtel did not enable this option for iPhone 5S and above in their carrier update. That's because the LTE band (frequency) which they use is only supported by iPhone 5S and above but not by iPhone 5.
I wouldn't rule out a possibility of a mess up at Apple's end though.
Thanks,
Rajeev.

Oct 21, 2014 1:32 PM in response to MarekZby Semjon_S,STOP!
I have 5S 64 GB, my friend 5S 32Gb, both updated to iOS 8.1.
He has 2G/3G/LTE switch, but my cellular menu wasn't even updated.
When he installed iOS 8.0 a "modem" line was erased from his menu, so he couldn't create an access point.

Oct 21, 2014 1:35 PM in response to Semjon_Sby NickMac7,Little confused but go on
Are you talking about in settigs>general>about and where it says modem firmware?

Oct 21, 2014 3:04 PM in response to MarekZby SC909,I still don't see it.
When I went to Settings>>General>>About, it prompted me saying new carrior settings are available. So I updated and it's updated to 18.1. Keep in mind I have an iPhone 5S with T-Mobile. After that I went to Settings>>Cellular, I don't see a toggle to switch from 2G to 3G to LTE. I'm in the US.

No switch 2G / 3G!

Oct 22, 2014 12:22 AM in response to Nerea1by janie_burmy,II've been having a rubbish signal on my iphone 6 since I bought it . In my house 2g has full signal. I get dropped calls all the time as it sits on 3 g one bar . I had hoped this new iOS 8.1 would do the trick and I could switch to 2g in the house, but it seems it might be carrier dependent....I think I'll wait and see if O2 UK decide to support it before I take the plunge....so if anyone is on O2 and the toggle works, please post!

Oct 22, 2014 2:37 AM in response to janie_burmyby MarekZ,That's why we need an option to select particular 3G band like UMTS900. Carriers are keeping us on UMTS2100 even when the signal is very poor (-120 dBm).
Same situation for LTE800 where carriers are keeping us on LTE1800 or LTE2600.

Oct 23, 2014 1:13 AM in response to janie_burmyby supersparksteve,I'm on O2 also with the same problem, I need 2G in my house where I get 4 Bars, but only 1 Bar with 3G and dropped calls all the time.
Now I updated my 5 and 6 to 8.1, the 5 now has the options to toggle 2G,3G,4G, but the 6 is exactly as it was before.
When I read the O2 stuff on their web site about the 6, it only mentions 4G, so maybe they do not want anyone with new phones on the 2G.

Oct 23, 2014 2:53 AM in response to netman_uyby Kyle-APP,So in the UK I'm on Vodafone UK with a iPhone 6 and a 4G (LTE) plan and I only have the option to disable 4G not the new option to change to 2G, 3G or 4G. My colleagues iPhone 5 is also on Vodafone with a 3G plan and he does have the new menu. Another colleague has an iPhone 5S on 02 with 4G, and his is also the old menu. The only thing that is different are our plans, 4G plans to 3G plan. Could this really be the difference? Seems stupid if it is as where we travel there is no 4G or 3G so that's why we need the 2G option like in the older generations. We can turn Data off entirely which then forces the handsets to use 2G for Voice and texts, so this looks like the only possible way around it until Apple comes up with a better upgrade in 8.1.1

Oct 23, 2014 6:23 AM in response to supersparksteveby awhpaul,Can I just say I wish! My iPhone 5S spends most of it's time on 2G Edge even when the same signal strength is available on 3g.
And I also do not see the 2g,3g,4g switch which was the main reason for the upgrade.
