Q: Help with Etrecheck Report - Extremely slow Macbook Pro

My Macbook Pro has been running extremely slow, both prior to and after the Yosemite update (the update itself took me 6 hours to install, while my friend with the same Macbook was able to complete it in 1 hour). I've ran in etrecheck to see what's at fault here... Any help/support would be much appreciated! Thanks for taking the time.

If you no longer have a Blackberry, rid the MBP of all RIM files.

You also have a 'uTorrent Application (/Applications/uTorrent.app)'.  Rid the MBP of this as well.  It is an invitation to malware as well as inhibiting the performance.

    Ciao.

Thanks for the info. Should I be worried about the use of my virtual information? It seems as if I have no RAM left, would this slow down the laptop?

The OSX will try to use as much RAM as is available.  If you read this Apple support article, it will explain why the amount in use is not a problem.

Memory pressure is what one should look for.  If it is green, it is good.

    Ciao.

Thanks for the link. My memory pressure is in the green zone. Despite this, my laptop is still slow, and I often encounter the colorful wheel when using any applications. Do you have any other tips/advice to solve this issue that may be relevant to my posted etrecheck?

Thanks again for taking the time to read it.

Edit: I deleted the BB applications from my laptop yet they're still running.

More RAM would be nice but that probably will not have a dramatic impact on the performance of the MBP.

At this point I suggest that you check the HDD via the recovery partition.  Run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.

The other place to look for solutions is to test if third party applications are an issue.  Try a safe boot:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US

If performance is good, then there is a third party item creating the slowdown.  All third party applications then should be removed and reinstalled systematically until the offending item is identified.

    Ciao.
