safari iOS 8.1 freeze and slow

Hello,

i have same problems with ios 8.1 with my Ipad3. when the Google search shows me the results, the blue links does not respond when I tap. Safari was as if frozen. I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

Same here.

The screen doesn´t react to tapping it sometimes.

Youtube, safari, crome, other apps freeze and stop working.

The pad doesn´t connect with my bluetoothtable.

The wi-fi turns off.

Everything is slow and bugs all the time. Its like having an old PC.

I dont know what to do. Can I go back a version somehow?!

(no issues before 8.02)

Same here, iPad 3rd gen, very slow. Safari unusable. iPad is ruined unless apple fixes this somehow.

Had big hopes for 8.1 but still super slow.

Apple, please let us downgrade to 7.1.2.

I'm very dissapointed in Apple, This is my last Apple product. My 2009 MacBook is already up for sale, I'll put this iPad up for sale too, but I doubt i'll get anything decent for it due to the performance issues.

I have a Nexus 5 and I love it, will be getting an Android tablet if I can sell this iPad.

Have to agree. I just bought a brand new iPad Air 1, worked fine on iOS 7, then I did the suggested upgrade to 8.1 and it's like it broke my iPad using Safari. Same issues as others here - page won't show as loaded until I pull down on it, links don't work until I do the same, all randomly.

Does anyone have a link for the bug report? Also, suggest everyone following this thread does that, as Apple themselves don't monitor these forums.

My iPad2 works great now after IOS 8.1 Update

I did my iPad2 update thru iTunes on my iMac and it was sucking the iMacs memory very low during the update. Safari froze before loading the first web page and I did a hard boot and went fishing as I saw where it was going to take a long time to recover. When I tried again it wasn't quite right and then did one more hard boot and then did a Reset by going to General-Reset-"Reset all Settings" and it works real well now without loosing any data and in-home wi-fi clocks at 17Mbps download. Probably like most of you I’m sticking with OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks as it gets the job done very nicely and don’t need all that extra fancy stuff that probably will slow things down.

Have iPad Air (not the newest one) and was thrilled that ios 8.1 finally seemed to have fixed my problem of staying connected using the 5 ghz wifi band....but now notice that Safari has problems instead....clinking links seem frozen at times when searching; although the book marks work fine....just get stuck tapping away with nothing happening until I give up and switch over to Chrome which works with no problems....but really! Chrome would work better on an iPad than Apple's own Safari?? APPLE! Where's your pride?!

Getting the same problems with Safari here on an iPad Air (first gen). Seen these issues with 8, 8.0.1, 8.0.2, 8.1.

* None of the links on a page respond to touch. Scroll the page up or down a little, links becoming responsive.

* Blocky page scrolling - scroll down and you get a page of white space briefly before it renders fully again.

* Hangs on entering text into a text box. This may be a touch issue - if I accidentally touch another part of the screen while inputting text? Safari hangs an dies after a few minutes or I have to kill it. This may only occur when auto-suggest is suggesting a word, not sure.

iOS 8.1 additionally gives me complete crashes and reboots on top.

I've tried all sorts of resets including a factory reset and restore from iTunes. No joy. Tried disabling various features in Safari too, still no joy.

A little update.

- Tried restoring to 7.1.2 without success on my iPad3

- Restored 8.1

Overall the system seems more responsive including safari though not responding as well as iSO 7 did. Still having some problems with other apps. For example facebook often has trouble loading images or videos.

At least it's starting to look like a software problem and not the fact that the hardware cannot handle the new OS requirements. I'm also encouraged by the fact that it also seems to affect people with the first generation iPad Air which really suggests that it's a software problem and not hardware.

Come on Apple, i'm pretty sure you have the ressources and enough old iPads lying around to figure this out.

Hi guys,

I have an Ipad Air 1 and after testing ios 8.1 Safari performance for a while I've observed that the slow/blocky scrolling happens when you have more than one tab open. Try it for yourself and post some results. Use only one tab.

It's by no means a solution but at least it stopped driving me crazy or breaking the Ipad in half.

Hope it helps

Hello.

I just purchased the new iPad Air 2 wi-fi, cellular, 128, last night and I was totally appalled within 45 minutes. I have the newest IOS and I am so angry I could barely sleep. You know how when you get a new apple item you can't put it down? Well I was so frustrated I put my gold iPad Air back in the box within several hours of opening it. Can't wait until the Apple Store opens to take this thing back.

Touch screen becomes non responsive....No response at all to multiple to tappings....just hangs. Certain letters on the keyboard, including space bar does nothing. It lagged during initial connection to iTunes and that made my eyebrows rise right away. It froze while syncing...took forever!

While using safari, the buttons, links won't respond. I have to back out and start searching again. So nuts!

Other apps freeze, wi-fi disconnects. The touch screen stutters, putters and stalls. Overall, does not seem to have that patented Apple fluidity. Driving me bonkers!

I have no interest in clicking my heels and standing on my head while I touch this, and hold that in a bogus effort to fix the bugginess of new and improved iPad Air 2. I am really frustrated and disappointed in Apple.

I have the iPad 3 (retina) which I have not updated to 8 and it works like a charm. I just bought the new iPad Air because I am a true Apple fan.....excuse me, I was. Ugh!

I know exactly how you feel, its really bad and has totally put me off Apple and its products. We have two iPad minis now back in their boxes as they are behaving exactly as you describe.

They will probably fob you off resetting everything, total waste of time, tried all that, they have a big problem and are not ethical and bold enough to admit it. Their goods are not fit for purpose and they have just ruined £600 of iPads in our house.

The very least they could do is tell people that are working on it but we all know they will not.

This one is after the last upgrade on Server 3.x where they left users unable to login in a network environment for MONTHS!!

Do report back what the shop says and I hope you get some sleep in the mean time.

Ok...Update as of 10/25.

Went to Apple and this is what happened. I exchanged the iPad Air 2 that I purchased yesterday. Everything was fine until we backed up my new iPad from iCloud. The stuttering, non responsiveness, lagging....all the same thing. Needless to say I almost became irate. The Apple crew said it was an issue with my backup, NOT the iPad or the IOS.

So...we did a restore (now on the new one) other than simply connecting to iTunes. We treated my iPad as if it were brand new. We then loaded only the applications by going to my purchases...then I downloaded each one I selected. We then entered my email. In other words other than connecting to iTunes, we added each function one by one. It took almost an hour for this...

Since I had a lot of pictures we manually selected the folders and albums I wanted to load (took a few minutes) in Photo first, then in iTunes.

Then I did a back up from my macbook, NOT from iCloud and bingo! What can I say. Responsiveness is perfect!

Their conclusion: It depends on your back up. If you back up from your mack (or PC) try backing up from the iCloud or vice versa. Apple is convinced it was a glitch in files....not the iPad to the IOS. They say, glitches can occur, especially if backing up from iCloud. I don't know what to think.

Now I am not a super tech person but I hope my explanation makes sense. It is working like a charm now. Ugh!
