Hello,

i have same problems with ios 8.1 with my Ipad3. when the Google search shows me the results, the blue links does not respond when I  tap. Safari was as if frozen. I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

If you're into conspiracy theories, then yes you'll believe the press is complicit in covering it up ... LOL ...

BUT ... the actual fact of the matter is that the press isn't reporting "the disaster" because there is no disaster ... only a very few out of the overall installed user base ... having any major problems!

Of course to the very few who are having some major problems ... it seems like a 100% to them ... :-) ...

Well at least 143 people  that have come across this topic on this forum are having issues,  that is quite a few if you ask me. Extrapolate that number to the total user base,  not everyone that owns an iOS device uses this forum and not all that do have come across this thread.

I've lost track a long time ago, but I would say it's a fair estimate that 150 people have reported success in solving their initial problems, or have said that they've had success from the very beginning with iOS 8.

I'm reminded of "Bend-gate" where there was news of the bending of the iPhones. Apple finally came out and said that they had NINE TOTAL that reported that problem with their brand new iPhone ... but ... that was out of 10 MILLION SOLD!!

People who "make noise" sound louder than 10 million others ... :-) ... and we know that's a common phenomenon on the Internet.

AAgain, as a user and not an apple knowledgeable person, I have been very disappointed with the results of the ios8 change. I have found that using bing as my search engine, I have ended the freezes. For a day or so I have searched  and selected sites from the list and it works. Stop using Google and the problem goes away. I still have the 4 finger gesture close failing at times. From what I see here my only possible way to remove the bugs iis to do a lengthy backup, restoral, a test period with an empty iPad, and then hope the backup that I reload does not contain the bug if all goes well.  Or is Google incompatible.  Seems a lot of bother for possible success. I have made a formal request to apple for help. No answer.

The workaround I found for the multi finger gesture bug is to go in Settings->General->Multitasking Gestures turn it off, wait a couple sec and turn it back on. you should be good to go until it stop working again... Just repeat the on/off and it should be working again. Not fun but at least it's not as long as a restore.

    good luck

I just swipe up the control center. Then 4 fingers works for a while. Kind of a 3rd rate fix. Not something I would expect from a great system.

i have tried all work arounds that have been recommended. the only thing that has worked for me is to purchase the puffin browser. $3.99 is less than cost of new tablet. its not the really smooth but will load quick, and for me it doesnt have to reload every second or two.

IIt is clear that these problems are widespread and affected users have no choice but to wait for Aapple to fix.

the press is now reporting, see

Having the very normal kinds of minor glitches with a very small percentage of users isn't something that is "widespread". For as long as I can remember, for the last 30+ years, with every company of every computer-type product with software upgrades, there has never been one single time for all those companies and all those products that for a major upgrade that there were never any fixes issued, usually two or three at the minimum. This kind of thing is so normal and predictable that it makes me realize that there are obviously a whole lot of neophytes here ... :-) ...

This is basically nothing in terms of the latger installed user base and in terms of the overall history of computer products.

This article is a bit more realistic ...

iOS 8.1.1 Beta Vs iOS 8.1: Performance Test For Older-Gen Devices

Major new releases of iOS tend to bring with them plenty of complaints of poor performance on older devices, and iOS 8 was no different with regard to how it ran on the iPhone 4s and iPad 2. Neither hardware is getting any younger, and with limited hardware at their disposal both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s have been found dwindling in the old speed stakes.

Curiously, Apple has very recently released a beta of iOS 8.1.1 to developers that has an interesting line in the release notes. Specifically mentioning the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s by name, Apple says that iOS 8.1.1 improves performance on those devices which will come as wonderful news to those struggling along with them.

The best course of action to take at this moment is time is to simply upgrade your hardware. Software updates might pump life into older hardware for a short moment of time, but eventually we all know that our aging gadgets will eventually give up on us.

In short, it’s time for an upgrade no matter what. After all, who doesn’t like to own newer gadgets, right?

why should we need to buy new gadgets, when the gadgets we own are still being sold in stores? and were working fine before ios8

Man, you really are a strange Apple cheerleader. It's not helpful --- you're not helping Apple, and you're not helping users. When problems arise, it doesn't help to post endlessly about how they're not really problems.

As these and other articles point out, the problems are in fact widespread. http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2014/10/30/ios-8-1-problems-add-to-slow-uptake-of- ios-8-x/

iOS 8 broke our HTML5 app on ALL devices and it has taken us weeks to put together a hacky workaround. Safari has serious bugs.

These are real problems and it's a good thing you don't work for Apple, because if this were their attitude, they would be in big trouble. I presume some engineers at Apple have finally noticed these issues and are hard at work fixing them. Good to know they don't have your bad attitude.

TThese are not "minor glitches"  they affect basic usability and are also affecting new devices.

i Have a long background in mainframe computer systems design and I recoganise poor project management when I see it.

You don't "need" to as it's true that they are working quite well right now. But when I advise people how to get the most out of their iOS device and the Apple ecosystem, I advise to sell the iPad 2 models AS FAST AS THEY CAN in order to get the best sales price possible, while it is still on Apple's upgrade process for iOS systems, because as soon as it goes into a "quarantine" mode and can no longer be upgraded, you're going to lose out on the sales value ... overnight!

AFter 8.1 update, Safari has periodically been freezing, links often do not respond to tapping on them, and even though I have high speed internet, downloading pages is extremely slow and sometimes Safari just gets stuck during downloading pages.

Your "points" are just because you obviously spend huge amounts of time in this forum. I don't have time for that. But, more importantly, I was referring to you not helping about this issue. You're not.
