Hello,

I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

NNo progress . Safari is worse than before.

Different models act in different ways with revisions and updates. What model is yours and is it WiFi or cellular, too. Also, what version of iOS 8 did you have before, and also, did you do this on your iPad or on iTunes on your desktop computer? These are all factors which can possibly produce varying results.

You are such a dumb-***. I just said I've been through the proper venues first. I, and many here, have already gone to Apple support, genius, and feedback....to NO AVAIL ! We are not idiots. We would not be wasting our time on this forum; scraping for every little tidbit of information to solve our woes, and putting up with ******** from people like you. This is not fun. This is a last resort. Apple is NOT HELPING US; no matter what you say, or how many ******* "points" you have. They are not fixing the problems that THEY CAUSED. Apple implemented a bug into our A5 devices that trashed them. Plain and simple. Your comments here are REDUNDANT, useless and inane; no help to anyone. Please, I'm begging you.....leave us alone to resolve our issues in relative peace.

You're obviously off on the wrong track if you think Apple is implementing bugs into iOS 8 software ... to then have to go through all the hassles of "unimplementimg" the bug later ... :-) ...

Apple is all about giving you the best experience possible with your iPad, and if you have a trouble ticket number, then you can go back on that same trouble ticket and reopen it in regards to this new revision iOS 8.1.1 because Apple will want to know from those people who did start a trouble ticket if this revision solves theif problems.

Star Traveler. Please dial it back. You are doing more harm than good here. Repetitive advice, challenging every post, etc is ratcheting up the frustration rather than reducing it. Please stop. I don't want to have to go to the LOUNGE and have a chat about you, but you are getting close to leaving the forums no alternative.

You need to review your posts in this entire discussion from the beginning as this is what has been causing multiple posters frustration and annoyance.

    Dear S.T.,

    For the record!

There are 2 iPad Air and 2 iPhone 5s in my household - Mine, now running iOS 8.1.1, and those of my wife running iOS 7.1.2

My daughter also has an iPad 3 (Retina Display) running iOS 7.1.2 and an iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.1.1.

My job is in the technology sector and my daughter has a degree in computer science - All very interesting, I'm sure NOT! , but do hope the preamble serves to illustrate that we, as a family, are not tech-illiterate.

    Now to business,

I've done a complete factory restore on both my iDevices through iTunes and have yet to install anything on either of them.

Putting aside all manner of issues other members have been experiencing under iOS 8.x, I'm afraid that I can only report that Safari is just as slow to load pages as previously under iOS 8.x, and appreciably slower than either that of my wife's iPad and my daughter’s iPad both running under iOS 7.1.2, and each “loaded” with all manner of apps including the infamous FB app!

I would gratefully appreciate any member being able to suggest what possibly could be the factor(s) influencing Safari performance on, my iPad, say.

As noted in previous member postings, disabling JavaScript in Settings>Safari>JavaScript, resurrects Safari's pre iOS 8.x performance, but page layouts are without formatting for obvious reasons!

Not really a solution, I grant you, but one I consider a fair indicator to the possible culprit in all of this.

I have read, at some length, that pre iOS 8.x all third party browsers were slower than Safari because Apple wouldn't allow them access to their "Nitro" JavaScript engine. This all changed in June of this year with Apple announcing they would allow others to use Nitro in iOS 8.x!

In my opinion another indicator to the possible culprit in all of this.

Now, from past experience, I fully expect a torrent of abuse to rain down on me for saying this, but here goes nothing! -

ANY upgrade, and I’m not directing at to Apple alone, should bring ONLY enhancements to your hardware and leave its previous core functionality intact!

I can fully appreciate, and even expect, any number of bugs, issues and problems to be apparent within these enhancements but to introduce them to core functionality that previously was stable is, quite frankly, inexcusable and a damning indictment on any company that, knowingly, releases such on the general public!

These core functionality bugs, issues and problems are readily, and rapidly, “discovered” by the general public so there’s no real excuse for any company not to do the same before release.

For me, Safari is one of the core functions in iOS 8.x - if not the most important core function - on the iPad at least, as evident by the "i" in iPad.

A quick search of the web reveals that there are more than a few isolated incidences of this issue and I would expect, with their legion of employees, should come as no surprise to Apple either!

Is there any member able to suggest what possibly could be the factor(s) influencing Safari performance on my iPad?

    Sincerely,

    Noremacniai.

i I have the iPad mini. I have tried all versions of ios8 . I am currently on 8.1.1.  I have set up as new and have deleted this and turned off that. safari loads slow, but my main gripe is if you go to a news siite or other sites that have comments. Safari will constantly reload the page time after time. It will say at the top there was a problem .  I never had this problem with ios7.  You have time to read four or five comments and then screen goes blank and you start all, over again. This is the most annoying thing to me. Ok load the page slow if that what it needs to do, but please stay on the page. Yes I have left feedback . Yes I have restarted, yes I have cleared cache.

I have had a couple of instances of Safari having to reload the page (stating there was a problem at the top) since the 8.1.1 update as well. To me, it seems to be sites with lots of popups, animations, and other stuff going on. Sites that tend to refresh themselves all the time. Like Huffington Post.

So, this issue is still a problem. There are sites that are overwhelming Safari in 8.1.1 in older systems that have to work within 512 meg of RAM. Anyone experiencing this with an iPad Air 2 or an iPhone 6 or 6 plus?

I Have similar issues on my ipad2. On IOS 7 safari was fast, smooth and stable. Now going through the various versions of IOS 8, now using IOS 8.1.1 Safari is slower, less stable and does hang. It is better on 8.1.1 but still not close the IOS 7 stability, smoothness and speed.

I have had the same experience with my iPad with retina display. Safari locked up 3 times while I was on Apples customer support chat!

Worse yet iOS 8.1 has made hands free operation of my iPhone 5 unusable. Apple refuses to sign iOS 7 and allow users to revert. Users should have the right to revert if on the first day of use the product is unacceptable.

The iPhone and iPad are supposed to be SIMPLE. Users shouldn't be expected to go through time consuming software maintenance and trouble shooting for a simple device. It's a telephone or tablet not a mainframe with a staff to support it!

Same here - although I did a factory reset from iTunes to iOS 8.1 on my iPad 3 things are still not what they used to be. Fortunately my device is saved from the worst effects but Safari still noticeably lags and text entries are occasionally crashing it. iOS 8.1.1 so far seems a mixed blessing too, more stutters and jerky behaviour when switching between apps but slightly improved in-app performance.

Apple support was utterly useless and tried to direct me towards paid support, which I considered as absolutely hilarious. First their useless update breaks the functionality of my device and then they want to charge me ransom money fo making it usable again (or not at all). So far I can live with the degraded performance of my iPad although I still would like iOS 7 back on it. But my inclination to buy another Apple product has been seriously curbed (currently owning MacBook 13 Retina, iMac 27, iPhone 4S and said iPad 3. And was looking to upgrade the iMac and the phone soon, not anymore).

So it seems that Apple has left the owners of A5 processor powered devices out in the rain (after the once more disappointing iOS 8.1.1 release I don't expect anything to come in the future anymore). But the least  thing one actually needs then is some high-handed, snotty, Koolaid-drinking, know-it-all Apple fanboy calling people incompetent and dishing out other insults while all he does is peddling Apple's insufficient Troubleshooting guides as heavenly manna...
