Q: Health app hanging - Possible to wipe/reset?

I'm getting a hang on iOS 8.0.x and 8.1 when I try to access any data in the Health app. The charts don't show any data at all, and "Show all data" hangs with a spinning circle, and the iPhone starts getting hot. I left it 5+ minutes, no data appears.

Periodically I will get "Show all data" to show a bit of data, what I see is tons of duplicated records going back many weeks, so I have a guess that a Withings bug inserted tons and tons of duplicative data into Health which is now causing me issues.

I have tried hitting "Edit" and "Clear All", but nothing seems to happen.

Anyone else seeing similar? I'd be happy to wipe all of the data and start fresh if that were possible.

On the Withings side, I turned off Health synchronization and asked it to remove all data, but this was not completed. I also tried turning off Withings ability to sync from within Health, hoping this would offer a "Turn off and delete?" prompt, without success.

iPhone 5s, now on iOS 8.1.0, problems started on iOS 8.0.2 when I first attempted to sync Withings data into Health.

My Health app is checking in at 2.5GB -- totally useless minus the Medical ID page. Obviously something is seriously wrong with Withings and/or Apple Health.

The common denominator here is the Withings app. Via Twitter I have notified them of this thread - lets see if they respond.

Withings responded quickly - sadly not a good response:

"sadly we do not have any clue on how to fix these problem :/. Sometimes reinstalling the app works… or not."

Yes, the sync bug is always there. When the Pulse in background transfers the data to HealthMate automatically, also a sync with health is started. But this process creates wrong doublicates and so the database is rising up!

In this case Health has no success to the database and show „No Data“ ore an absolutely false graph.

The only way to use Healthmate with HealthKit and Health is the following:

    1. Restart the iPhone. Don’t open Health.
    2. Open HealthMate and turn the sync with Health off. Answer with „Yes“ for delete all data (only Healthmate data will be deleted!)
    3. Check Helth, that’s there no more Healthmate data. If there is a rest, delete it manually.
    4. Once more turn the sync with health in HealthMate on and sync.
    5. Don’t sync sleep data (turn the option off). They are doubled at the first time. Delete sleep data from Withings using the option in Health at the sleep data tab and don’t allow the sleep data sync for HealthMate at the Sleep Data graph.
    6. After the end of the synchronization turn the automatically sync one more off. DON'T delete the health mate data!
    7. From time to time, you can manually start a sync with health in the profile from HealtMate. Don’t forget to turn it off after the end of the process.
So you can have also the Healthmate data in Health.

The data wrong synched in a background process. I think there is the bug in HealthMate!

I hope, Withings will fix this bug!!

My data use for Health with manual sync are 7,7MB!

Unfortunately this only works if the amount of data that Withings synchronized was quite small. With larger amounts of data, Health is completely unresponsive and inoperable, attempting to remove the data from Withings' app by turning off synchronization fails, and the Health app itself hangs if you attempt to access your data, so the "Clear All" and other delete functionality simply isn't available.

Thats why you have to turn off sleep data sync! The other data are quit small.

Sure, that will prevent things from getting further broken. But once they're already broken, there doesn't seem to be a fix.

If you delete Withings (sleep) data all goes fine. You can do this at the sleep data graph-> data ->source -Withings (sorry I'm german and don't know the right menu items).

Then your database is reduced to a normal size. I'm using it now in this way for the time as published iOS 8.1 and all works fine!

Again, that only works if you have a relatively small amount of data. With larger amounts of data, Health is completely unresponsive and inoperable, attempting to remove the data from Withings' app by turning off synchronization fails.

I'm using HealthMate sins 9/2013 (also over a year). Delete the HealthMate data is a quit long process and you have the process on top all the time.

I'm using Pulse, Aura, Body Scale and Blood pressure device (all from Withings). The data for sleep are synced also twice at the first time and there are a lot of it. This is the reason for slow up the healthkit database. Delete this, speed up the sync and the Health app. The other data always have only one item a day, if you sync manually. To delete the Withings data, the going up process of syncing has to be terminated. Thats only possible with a restart of the iPhone. The first thing, you have to do is turn of the sync process from HealthMate and delete all data! I have done this also many times, before I have expected the solution to avoid the data doublicating. Now, with a manually sync, all work fine for me. I have 3 times opened a ticked at Withings and give im a hint, where the bug come from. But they always say, that the notice is given to the developing team. I'm a software developer, and so I know, how to explain a bug.

If you dave successfully deleted all Withings data, a manual sync give you a chance to use Health as you expect.

@tstenzel: Again: It is NOT possible to delete ANY data! For the rest of us affected by the mess caused by the Withings app there is simply no way to delete the HealthMate data. None! The Health app is completely inresponsitive, so there is no way to even get any display of data or a "delete" button. If we remove the Withings app the data will stay and the Health app is still broken in the sense of "nothing is possible" (no button works, nothing is shown).

I got a response from the German Withings Support today. They promise an update to fix the mess in a week from now. I am sceptical if the update really will be able to completely remove the un-deletable data.

Can someone from Apple please weigh in on this issue. Perhaps there's a simple way to delete the corrupt HealthKit data when connected to a desktop?

I have deletede withings, then restored my iPhone 6 from a non encrypted iTunes backup.

Then I have downoaded Withings again, and synced it with Health

After one day, everything seems back to normal.

I'm having the same issued and suspect it's Withings Health Mate. I have deleted it and a "ghost" app com.withings.wiScaleNG is still in the sources list. I have wiped my phone and set it up from backup several times, but I still can't get Health App to work correctly.

I had the same issue. Health App was locked down and didn't show any information.

but the work around with creating an unencrypted backup, wiping the phone and restoring from unecrypted backup brought life back into my health app! nothing else worked.
