Q: Health app hanging - Possible to wipe/reset?

I'm getting a hang on iOS 8.0.x and 8.1 when I try to access any data in the Health app. The charts don't show any data at all, and "Show all data" hangs with a spinning circle, and the iPhone starts getting hot. I left it 5+ minutes, no data appears.

Periodically I will get "Show all data" to show a bit of data, what I see is tons of duplicated records going back many weeks, so I have a guess that a Withings bug inserted tons and tons of duplicative data into Health which is now causing me issues.

I have tried hitting "Edit" and "Clear All", but nothing seems to happen.

Anyone else seeing similar? I'd be happy to wipe all of the data and start fresh if that were possible.

On the Withings side, I turned off Health synchronization and asked it to remove all data, but this was not completed. I also tried turning off Withings ability to sync from within Health, hoping this would offer a "Turn off and delete?" prompt, without success.

iPhone 5s, now on iOS 8.1.0, problems started on iOS 8.0.2 when I first attempted to sync Withings data into Health.

The crucial point is that the backup must be without encryption! If the iPhone is restored from an unencrypted(!) backup, all the Health data will be definitely deleted.

Along with a lot of other things, unfortunately.

Just for the record I'm having a similar problem with the Jawbone Up24 data.  It displays on the dashboard, but when I try to review the individual postings behind in the Health app, it hangs in a similar manner.

Exactly same problem as original poster - WIthings Health Mate has a lot of data (BP, Weight, Steps, no sleep) - initially it seemed to work, but the steps were crazy high.  Now nothing displays in Apple Health and I can't even turn off the individual sources in the Withings source - App just freezes. In the Withings Health Mate, in my profile, the Sync display was frozen 1/2 way across - so I turned sharing with Health OFF and it said "deleting" - now, I can't turn sharing back on - it toggles, but nothing happens.  Many restarts and nothing fixes it.  I really don;t want to do the unencrypted backup dance, as you lose a lot of stuff in addition to the Health data.  I've filed a complaint with Withings, but don't expect much.  Also pointed them at this thread.

I too on my iphone6 i have all the problems already highlighted. I still use UP byjawbone. So the iPhone has become unmanageable: the battery discharges quickly and the device overheats

Same issue for me, all apps I had synching with healthkit before 8.1 are now having issues. No ability to view or delete datasources. Accessing HealthKit app or settings just hangs. Hopeless apple...can't wait for Microsoft Health app to be released to Australian App Store.

    Hi,

I also have this problem.  Anymore ideas for possible solutions?   I noticed another thread with the same problem (and some good info - but no solutions)...Health app size

I tried to restore all settings on the iPhone (thinking this would get rid of the Health App data) and was unable to reboot the phone.  I'm now restoring from an unencrypted backup (w/o Health App data).  We'll see if this works.  It seems that the problem is with the Withings Health Mate App, so I'm hesitant to try using this with the Health App until they issue an update. I just started using the Withings Pulse and wonder if this had anything to do with the problem.  I noticed that the battery (in the pulse) was draining really quick on the pulse (w/in 4 days) - maybe it has something to do with the Health App problem (bloated app size)?

I also had Strava linked to the Health App and had the same ghost issue as the Withings App when I removed it (the com... link remained under privacy settings).

Sadly iOS 8.1.1 has not helped either, same issue.

Withings updated the app today saying they crushed the bug that made repeated entries. Actually the text is quite strange, lots of might and should and most. However, I still can't find a way to clean the mess it made. I have 1,1GB of data in Health App......... and nothing works to delete or clear that. My HealthMate app does nothing when I deactivate Health sync, not even ask for deletion. When I turn off specific sync items (weight or steps) from the Health sources, the same, nothing.

Updated Withings & still no love.  The app was unable to delete its data from Health.  So, I uninstalled it.  It asked to delete its data from health, but it didn't.  I have 212mb of data & zero other apps have ever been source data for the Health App.  Seriously, Apple needs provide a way to fix corrupt data for the Health app.

I think it is possible the Health App is the worst stock app ever released by Apple. They really should be ashamed! The android equivalent works perfectly. Oh well, I still like my iPhone and I have resorted to just burying the health app in a folder so I don't need to see it.

So I was finally able to fix the issue.  I had to backup (non encrypted) & then restore.  All Health history was deleted.  This is the 2nd time I've done this.  Seems to be stable now.
