Q: Health app hanging - Possible to wipe/reset?

I'm getting a hang on iOS 8.0.x and 8.1 when I try to access any data in the Health app. The charts don't show any data at all, and "Show all data" hangs with a spinning circle, and the iPhone starts getting hot. I left it 5+ minutes, no data appears.

Periodically I will get "Show all data" to show a bit of data, what I see is tons of duplicated records going back many weeks, so I have a guess that a Withings bug inserted tons and tons of duplicative data into Health which is now causing me issues.

I have tried hitting "Edit" and "Clear All", but nothing seems to happen.

Anyone else seeing similar? I'd be happy to wipe all of the data and start fresh if that were possible.

On the Withings side, I turned off Health synchronization and asked it to remove all data, but this was not completed. I also tried turning off Withings ability to sync from within Health, hoping this would offer a "Turn off and delete?" prompt, without success.

iPhone 5s, now on iOS 8.1.0, problems started on iOS 8.0.2 when I first attempted to sync Withings data into Health.

So I was finally able to fix the issue.  I had to backup (non encrypted) & then restore.  All Health history was deleted.  This is the 2nd time I've done this.  Seems to be stable now.

I did exactly the same yesterday. Seems like the only way to remove all health data when it's stalling.

I did it 3 weeks ago, and I am happy for it : Since that, Health has been responsive.

But I still had some duplicate datas coming from Withings.

When the last relasee of withings has been available few days ago, I stopped the suync with Health to delete again all the datas coming from this app.

And since I restarted it the sync, eveything is fine.

    For me, problem solved.

It will only work until you get a certain amount of data in there and then you will be back to square one.

The interesting thing is that this problem only effects a minority of users that are really into health and have multiple services writing to the health database. People who only have the health app tracking their steps from the A8 (which is the majority of users) have no problems at all. Therefore I think it is unlikely that this crappy software is ever fixed.  Its really unfortunate the Apple devs who made this software are not into health or these bugs would have been found ages ago. Same is true for tech bloggers.

So have we determined this is a problem with the Withings app or with the Health app?  It seems to me to be a problem with the Health app since you should be able to delete data but that doesn't seem to stick/work.

Health. Period. While it may be caused by Withings, it's not exclusive to Withings, and even if an app gets bad data from elsewhere, if it fails to function properly, the app itself is still broken and needs to be fixed.

Has anyone gotten a response from Apple Support?  I've been in chat with them and the best answer they have is to set it up as a new phone (obviously losing any app data that doesn't sync to a cloud account).  Not acceptable.

Same thing for me. I restore my iPhone 6 and everything is back to normal... Took 4H to restore/re-install. Never again

Just confirming that the reset worked for me too. Here's what I did:

    1. Made an unencrypted backup via iTunes.

    2. Hit "Restore Backup" and choose the recent unencrypted backup.

    3. Secure deleted the unencrypted backup ASAP, because ick.

The whole process too about 10 minutes, and no Health data was backed up or restored, so I finally got a clean slate as far as the Health app goes.

Note: Contrary to some statements above, I didn't lose any other data, and I only needed to Restore Backup (not Restore iPhone).

I cannot confirm this. I have just backed up my iPhone 6 and then restored the backup. The Health App is still hanging. It still shows more than 500 MB in used memory.

I didn't loose any data either but I had to copy all photos again.

Make sure that you're restoring from an unencrypted backup. The encrypted backups still contain the Health data, only the unencrypted backups exclude the Health data.

Glad to have found this thread, not happy that there isn't an easy fix.  I have 1.6GB of data from Withings Pulse, Scale and BP monitor.

Switching off the sync in Withings doesn't ask if I want to delete from Health.  There's no opportunity to turn off data elements in Health - when I touch the slider, it moves very slightly, then after a couple of minutes it moves the rest of the way across.  However, when I exit Health and go back in, the slider is back in the ON position.

Looks like I will need to try the unencrypted backup approach, but I know that (amongst other things) it will clear stored passwords.

Watching the thread and hoping, but not expecting...

    It works !

Health App was not showing any data for the last 3 months and did not investigated the topics as I was mainly using Runstatic and Withings Apps instead, but I thought it was time to get it right. Then I try to reset setting => still not working; then restore twice => still not working; then I found this post then I:

    1) unencrypted back-up

    2) restore from unencrypted backup

    3) check that it is Health Apps is working => yes health is now working on my iphone 6 !!

    4) encrypted my back-up to fulfil my company security mandatory rules

At the end after one full night of investigations, resets, restores, downloads, forums..... it works and I am quite happy.

    Many thanks to this community.

I delete data in Flights Climbedfirst, it works the data if Flights Climed is deleted.

Then I delete Working&Running Distance, it is deleted also.

Then the last one, I delete data in step. It also works.

Problem happened to me after updating to 8.3.  Was also having the same issue with Lark not loading.  I deleted Lark (which seemed to take a while), gave the iPhone a restart for good measure and voila!!  Health loaded straight away with current steps etc.
