Q: How are Aperture and Yosemite getting along so far?

How are Aperture and Yosemite getting along so far?

Hi guys,

Is it OK for Aperture users to take the plunge and update to Yosemite, or is it wiser to wait for kinks to be worked out first? I didn't find any reference to this matter so far on this forum or on the web. I may have mort worded it correctly.

Thanks for responding,

Raphael

Also,

Why do I constantly run into the statement: "You are not allowed to create or update this content" when I click on "Post"? So annoying ....

    Thank you Frank.

I had an iMac which I sold to a friend because of too many beach balls with Aperture, and the present MBook Pro.

So now, with just my MBook, I need to replace the iMac with a new one ... ahem ... do you see where I'm going with this...?

    Hi guys,

Today, at the Apple Store, I plugged my APL into a Macbook Pro, a Macbook Air and a 21" iMac, consecutively. I never saw Aperture zip along more joyfully, almost giddily, with nary a hiccup.

    Was I lucky?

Can we generalize and/or draw any useful conclusions? Needless to say, I was surprised.

    Thanks,

Others including myself have found that deleting the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file from User/Library/Preferences, then rebooting fixes the problem. You don't have to delete the trash, but you do have to reboot. Hope this helps. This was really bugging me.

I've tried it on an iMac and a MacBook Pro "17.

    I noticed no new problems.

    Hi Leonie,

In your opinion, where are we in all of this? I need to replace my iMac but hesitate, and have not upgraded my MBook Pro. Yet.

Is Aperture still workable with Yosemite?

    Thanks a lot,

Is Aperture still workable with Yosemite?

It is intended to be workable with Yosemite. The 3.6 update has added quite a few bug fixes and compatibility with Yosemite. See the release Notes:  Aperture 3.6 Release notes - Apple Support

    Aperture 3.6 Update

    • Adds compatibility with OS X Yosemite.
    • Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture performance to slow down while browsing through images with onscreen proofing enabled.
    • Fixes an issue where Aperture could become unresponsive in rare cases when adding to a shared photo stream.
    • Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to unexpectedly quit when using the Write IPTC Metadata to Originals feature.
    • Aperture no longer displays the alert, “This library has been opened with a newer version of Aperture.” when using Library First Aid with libraries previously opened in iPhoto.

I have no problems with Aperture 3.6 after the initial lagging. But that is just one sample.

"But that is just one sample"? Of what? Why keep me in suspense?

Léonie is not keeping you in suspense.  She is indicating that her experience is just that — one sample of Aperture under Yosemite.  It may be representative; it may not.  She is letting you know that she does not know whether it is broadly representative.

    Thanks for the interpretation, Kirby!

That is exactly, what I meant.   My use of Aperture is probably not representative, and the other software on my macs is also also not representative. For one, I do not use any plug-ins, other than Border-FX and cannot say, if any of the Nik plug-ins are working, or Aperture works well with Adobe products as external editor.

    How are they getting along?

Not very well at all. I am using Yosemite 10.10.1 Aperture 3.6

In both Aperture and in iPhoto the iCloud albums are incomplete as to the download numbers. I know that they are there as they are on my iPad.

So far I have managed to synchronise 11,000 out of 15,600 but synchronization has stopped leaving many of the albums incomplete.

In addition one album which should contain over 1,500 images, is incomplete as to the numbers that should be there and has just a few filled in and the others just blank.

I have all the preferences checked, run download of Yosemite twice, rebuilt the library, repaired permissions, checked and re checked everything I can think of.

Does anyone else have this problem and/or how can it be fixed so that my albums on my Mac Book Pro ( early 2011) can be fixed?

    Thanks for any suggestions.
