Q: Random Blue Screen Crash with 5S and iOS 8.1

Since upgrading to iOS 8.0 my iPhone 5S randomly gets blue screens and then crashes and goes into a loop of boot up, blue screen, reboot, blue screen, reboot...etc. My 5S did this again today when during my upgrade to iOS 8.1 via USB and I was forced to do a factory restore on it. The blue screen is still occurring after the restore and 8.1 upgrade. Is this a known issue? I was hoping this was going to get fixed with 8.1 but unfortunately, it doesn't look like it has.

This is not working for me. It goes throught the whole extracting and looks like its working and then goes right back to the loop of reboot and blue. Any advice?

    Hi!

I had the same thing. And it got to the point where phone no matter what once in 10-15 min will go on the loop. Yday i tried to restore it through DFU mode. Had troubles, cause once it will go to 'Restoring iPhone's software' blue screen would appear again and no restore. It took a couple of restarts of my Mac and about 10 tries to finally get my phone to restore and then restore from the back up. It been almost 24h and so far so good. Though i'm noticing that battery is draining faster (maybe i'm just imagining it). But NO blue screen or any kind of reloads.

Give a hard DFU mode restore a try (not an update, that didn't do a thing for me).

I've had the same problem as everyone else (5S updating to 8.1) and I'm trying the DFU mode reset.  My phone completely failing is bad enough, but it's also telling me that it will take FIFTEEN HOURS to download the iPhone software update.

And if being without my phone for an entire day because I tried to download an iOS update with "bug fixes" (*snicker*) isn't bad enough, based on the other responses in this thread, I can't even be sure that the same thing won't happen again after the factory restore.

    Shocking.

Okay. No crashes so far but battery is plummiting. 50% down in little over 2 hr of usage (before on 8.0.1 i experienced better power usage) and phone is heating up. Oh, well..

I just got my iPhone 5s replaced after upgrading to the 8.1 operating system. Phone was fine before this upgrade, but after 8.1 it randomly restarts.

Download iOS Console and plug your iPhone into your Macbook or Windows machine. Check the crash logs. If you don't want to dowload iOS console, go to "Settings > General > About > Diagnostic & Usage".

I found a bunch of crashlogs in the directory. This is also where my helpful Apple store tech checked as well and helped me replace my iPhone. I don't have the specific snippets of the log, but it mentioned "CRC and NAND" as the culprit. The tech said this is a hardware failure and I personally believe it has something to do with 8.1. While I was in the Apple store, 2 other customers came in with the same problem and that probably helped me get a replacement.

Quick update:  After downloading for 5 hours, it failed with a generic message and now does not give me the option to try the download again.

Time to go to the Apple Store, I guess.

    Mayve yours was under warranty.

That's a shame... 5 days after warranty and Apple did not replace my phone! It still turns on but goes back to blue screen.

I had to buy a new iPhone but haven't received it yet....4 weeks without phone.

Apple should consider an upgrade for all this caused trouble.

I'm having the same issue. My phone has been working fine all day long but when I just took it out a little while ago, it was completely frozen on the lock screen. I've tried restarting it, powering down, etc. but the phone is completely unresponsive. After a few minutes it will reboot to the grey Apple screen and occasionally, I'll get the blue screen before it does it.

I am having a similar issue, it's a random dark blue screen crash. And the screen is being really unresponsive on my iPhone 6 Plus.

OMG having same problem - happened while upgrading to 8.1 OTA.

Even while setting up wifi password and AppleID, would reboot constantly.

Did the DFU with iTunes and installed 8.1 again that way. Again, same behavior of rebooting.

Not sure what to do now with the 5S other than trying another round of complete reset and starting over, may bring it to an Apple store tomorrow....
