Jan 14, 2015 6:36 PM in response to erikdcby Rod Miller,Wow! Unbelievable! After all this time, a simple, direct answer to what I thought was a simple question . . . thank you Erik for confirming this and, ultimately, for the answer!! I can finally update to Yosemite without fear of losing the functionality of my e-mail. Finally, a relief! Rod

Feb 21, 2015 10:09 PM in response to rock156by Frozen1968,It is now February 21st, 2015 and there is no fix for this problem. My parents actually use AOL Desktop and are lost without it. Unreal!

Mar 3, 2015 8:46 PM in response to rock156by Moonieelf,Yeah, it's March 3 now, and it's still not fixed. If I'd done my homework properly, I would not have bought my macbook air today.

Mar 4, 2015 5:39 AM in response to Moonieelfby Prousa,Recently I received an email from Apple, effective March 30, 2015 , AOL users can no longer sign onto any APPLE devices or Mac's using AOL email address. I have since removed AOL user ID for Apple and replaced with new ID and password via appleid.apple.com. I've also canceled AOL subscription that I had since 1989. Yes, big sacrifice made, however, I don't think the dispute on compatibility issues between Apple and AOL would ever be resolved. I'm currently using Free AOL and so far, it has been running well without crashes.

This is not correct! The release states that people can no longer use their AOL screen name to sign into Itunes, Ibooks, and the App Store. If you have been using your AOL screen name and password to access any of those you must convert to an Apple ID. Of course, if you use an apple email for your apple ID (e.g. your apple ID ends in @aol.com) you are fine. This is only for people who have been accessing Apple services using their AOL account screen name and password.
Furthermore, this thread is about AOL desktop software continually crashing on Yosemite. So this post has nothing to do with this thread. Lets move on and try to figure out if AOL is ever going to fix the compatibility issues with Yosemite.

Apr 7, 2015 5:59 AM in response to Frozen1968by assorted,Here's a link to a tech support page updated when I last viewed March 9th stating AOL Desktop does not work on Yosemite -
https://help.aol.com/articles/aol-desktop-for-mac-troubleshooting-tips
Ideally, obviously, they'll update a new version to work for Yosemite. But at the least until then, this information needs to be on the download page for AOL Desktop for Mac - not buried in help file troubleshooting tips. I bought and setup a new mac air for a user that's very comfortable with the AOL interface and she's screwed now.

Jun 22, 2015 9:57 AM in response to assortedby jim361,Had Geek Squad attempt to fix AOL Desktop problem (always quit about 10 seconds after signing on), after about 4 attempts deleting/re-installing he advised to contact AOL. Just got off the phone with AOL tech support and they stated that there were no updates for OSX-Yosemite and didn't know if there would be. They suggested I get my mail ay aol.com. I called billing and suggested they drop us from the $30.99 plan down to the $4.99 plan since their desktop program was no longer available to us.
After over 2 decades with AOL it appears that they are no longer responsive to their customers' needs. I won't be buying any of their stock any time soon.

Jul 27, 2015 6:32 PM in response to rock156by meleene7,It is now almost August of 2015. I have basically been an aol customer for as long as my parents had it (90s). Welp..guess AOL wants to keep losing customers! Switched over to MAC as it seems many are doing these days, and realized the persistent problem with the desktop software. Screw AOL then. It's been real and I'm NOT going back to stupid windows for it.

Jul 27, 2015 7:38 PM in response to meleene7by Rod Miller,Why do you insist on using AOL Desktop software when it doesn't work with Yosemite? AOL posted the warning before Yosemite was launched. There is no fix and AOL is not working on one despite what they say. They would have had one by now. Apple has no incentive to work with AOL to fix the software conflict. AOL Mail works perfectly with Yosemite Apple Mail software. AOL Desktop does not work with Yosemite. Just use Apple Mail - simple!

Aug 15, 2015 11:34 AM in response to rock156by MacPcConsultant,On a somewhat related matter, can anyone find the old installer for the last LEGACY version of AOL (not the desktop). A friend is running OS 10.68 and the app needs to be reinstalled and she discarded the installation program from her hard drive.
Have search the Internet and it cannot be found. The few links in several forums are dead.

Aug 30, 2015 1:15 PM in response to Bopokshelfby Rolf Rykken,it seems like a corporate fight.
AOL suggested earlier this month that I switch from Safari to Firefox so Desktop for Mac doesn't crash after 30 seconds. I guess Safari is in someway incompatible and Apple won't make whatever adjustment AOL wants. Pretty silly.

Jan 22, 2016 12:05 PM in response to Rod Millerby D Schneider,It is not just "that simple" There are feature like email address blocking that can only be accessed from AOL desktop app and cannot be accessed through AOL in Mac Mail or on AOL from a browser.
I agree this fight is stupid but they both hold users hostage with it.
