iphone 6 ios 8.1 update fails error code 56

same here, but with error code 53.

Same here ours just goes from the apple screen to the red screen of death. It will not power up or let us do anything with it. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Got same error here with iPhone 6 Plus. Was doing OTA update from 8.0.2 to 8.1 today. That failed and got it straight into the recovery mode. So I turned to restore the phone through iTunes 12.0.1.26 on Mac. The Mac failed too and give me this unknown error 56.

Just for the sake of trying, I just tried to restore again my recovery mode iPhone 6 Plus (see the above post) on a Windows 7 PC. And, voila, this time it successfully restored and updated the phone to 8.1. So, I really have no idea what went wrong previously, but am glad the phone is working again.

This happened to me as well. I took it to the apple store and they reinstalled the software. Now it works fine.
