Playlist not showing up after iOS 8.1 update.

After updating to IOS 8.1 on my iPhone 6 my playlists in iTunes seem to not work anymore.

They are not showing up under music / now all there is syncing voice memos. It says iTunes match is on. Although it wasn't on. And turning it on or off doesn't being back my play list menu.

Also after the update all my cloud music show up in my music . app as cloud downloads.

How do I get my playlists back and remove the cloud songs that ain't actually synced onto my phone?

I am using the latest iTunes 12

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

Same thing happened to me. Update turns iTunes match in by default. Again. Just like iOS 8 did.

Here's what I went through last time trying to get my music back on my phone:

Turn off iTunes match — and it would be nice if future updates honoured my settings, oh my mighty Apple engineers.

Settings>iTunes &App Store, toggle off iTunes Match and make sure the SHOW ALL is also toggled to off. Also verify that iTunes Match is in fact turned off in Settings>Music.

Delete all the music off your iPhone assuming it left any behind (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music then hit edit and delete).

Now spend the next hour or so fighting to get you iTunes on your desktop to put your music back via sync.

The last part I can't verify right now since I'm at work with nothing but the last two albums I bought on my iPhone for the next 10 hours. Thanks, Apple, for making today really annoying.

I've been having this problem since upgrading to the iPhone 6 and the new iOS. I've tried every solution known to man and still haven't been able to get iTunes to sync my playlists properly. The only way I've been able to get my music back on my phone is to use MediaMonkey instead which works, but isn't ideal, as every time I need to sync something like a book or app, I have to go to iTunes, which in turn removes my music from my phone. I was hoping the iTunes 12 update would fix the problem, but it hasn't.

I've decided to uninstall and then reinstall iTunes to my computer and rebuild my library with iTunes Match turned off as I believe that iTunes match is part of the problem. I'll let you know if uninstalling and then rebuilding the library with iTunes Match off actually works.

It doesn't disable them, per se, but drops them from your device in favour of iTunes Match "Upgraded" playlists.

Seems that's the nature of iTunes Match now. Which, as I recall, was the way it behaved in beta, and now seems to have the similar behaviour, except, it seems albums bought recently off iTunes -- only two of my playlists remained after the update, while albums synced directly from my computer were dropped in favour of uploaded iTunes match playlists.

It's either a case of "whoops, well, we didn't mean that to happen" or "mwhahaha... buy your stuff from us or watch it disappear off your device with each update." I'm leaning towards the sooner, but not entirely convinced it's not the latter.

I want to report that I do not subscribe to iTunes Match. After having this same problem, I went to Settings>iTunes & App Store, then toggled off Show All for both Music and Videos. Then I synched my iPhone. Playlists from iTunes on my computer then showed up and worked correctly on my iPhone. On my iPhone, the options for creating a Genius Playlist and creating a New Playlist also showed up and worked correctly after having been absent before my settings change. The Voice Memos playlist also disappeared.

Based on this, I don't think the problem is with iTunes Match, but rather with Show All. I was unhappy about the prospect of removing and resynching all my music as described by Jciring in this thread. Thankful, that was unnecessary. Hope this helps.

I have no idea how I ended up with this user name. Perhaps Apple is telling me that I spend too much time looking at cats on the Intrawebz!

ssuccess !

after running into the same problem this morning. Wondering why I couldt edit, create a new playlist, /why songs did not show up in the selected list.

i Read about the match/ show all. Issue. ( only the list with my iTunes purchases cold be added?

well, match was disabled on my iPad. So toggled show all. off. And there was the edit and create button again. Now everything works as ever since before iOS 8. So for me it has nothing to do with iTunes.

(Even if I toggle show all on again everything works fine)

I am so upset... I needed music for a presentation tonight and after upgrading to new iTunes and iOS8 (and forgetting that I lost my music with the last upgrade...) lo and behold, my playlist for tonight's presentation had NO MUSIC!!! I can't tell y'all how p/o'd and embarrassed I was... I can't tell you the BAD REPUTATION that Apple and iTunes received on my behalf and amongst my coworkers. My question is why doesn't iTunes leave our setting alone. Also, when one upgrades to the new software, EVERYTHING CHANGES... the skin, how to access the music... This is getting tiresome and ridiculous!!! I have to say that Apple is becoming more and more disappointing. Someone really needs to get a grip at iTunes / Apple... SMH 😟

The last time this happened in Sept., it took TWO HOURS for me to figure out the correct combination... I have my iPhone 5 and the simple solution of simply "toggling on" SHOW ALL MUSIC did not work, so I did this:

Settings > iTunes and App Store: Music, Show All; Videos, Show All

I am NOT SUBSCRIBED to iTunes Match... $24.99/year... really...?!

Automatic Downloads: Music, toggled on

Settings > Music: Show All Music, Toggled On

I unselected all of my playlists, artists and albums... and then selected a playlist that only has two songs. Viola, the two songs are there...

So, now that it is 9:19p, I will reselect my playlists and let them load overnight...

Again, as I responded to another post here, I needed a playlist for a presentation tonight and I forgot that I had upgraded to the new iTunes... I WILL NOT UPRADE iTunes ever again, until I am forced too... Apple / iTunes is really becoming sloppy and not thinking about its end users... (or are they trying to force us to forgo our uploaded music from our CDs from many years of CD purchases from the 90s and early 00s...???!!! Hmmmm, things that make yougo hmmmmmm.

Here is the issue I ran into with the new iTunes and iPhone 6 2 days ago. All my music and video went from music files and videos in the indicator bar below to showing as other. No music or videos was showing up on my phone that it was there but in iTunes on the computer it showed it was there. What I did was I played 1 song on my computer from my phone and then all the songs and videos went back to showing on my phone and no longer was identified as other in the indicator bar, but no music was in any of the playlists but the music was able to be played but only from the artist or song list , the playlist indicated 0 songs in them. Tonight what I did was uninstall iTunes from my computer then rebooted my computer and then re down loaded iTunes and re-installed it then synced my phone and everything went back to the way it was on my phone, all the songs went back to their proper playlist and it is all good now. I never had to delete anything or re down load anything to my phone. I did call apple before I did all this and they have no idea on how to fix this issue or why it happened. Hope this helps somebody.

I am having a similar problem with my iPad after upgrading - personal ripped DVD videos in iTunes library do not sync to iPad. I've read a lot of suggested fixes in the Apple Forums but nothing seems to fix this issue for me, I've invested a lot of time ripping CD's and DVD's and I must say I'm about ready to sell my three Apple iPad2 , iPad4 and iPhone5S devices.. Apple just doesn't seem to support their products and instead seems to rely their user community for all support issues.
