IPhone 5s, ios 8.1, wifi problems still

i have had my phone replaced already for wifi issues that I was sure we're ios related but Apple insisted on replacing the phone. The problem has persisted at home even with the new phone. Upgraded to ios 8.1 last night and the problem is still apparent. I would even venture to say that it has got worse.

i have tried resetting the network settings. I was in the market to buy a MacBook and a new tablet, I am now reconsidering both as Apple seem to have lost their way when it comes to quality of service in their software.

Have any of you bothered contacting Apple about your issues (especially those who have done some debugging work?)

We're just fellow users here, and Apple's engineers don't follow these discussions for problem reports.

Either contact AppleCare, or file a bug here: http://bugreport.apple.com

It's certainly not a universal issue, as many have had no issues at all, and if you walk into an Apple Store every iPhone and iPad is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and they don't drop out.

I am sure they do work in the store as does mine if I stay with in 20 feet of my home routers (yes two different brands of routers both having issues with this). Certainly appears that something was working well in 7.x releases and has now changed in 8.x in terms of response time parameters for network packets needed to maintain the connection etc. My phone connects just fine close but drops at a distance of 25-30 feet and asks for the network password repeatedly even though the phone clearly knows and has the proper password because if I move close and reselect the network it connects just fine.

Even more interesting cause I have two iPhone 5 devices one of which still works well after upgrade and as it did before, and the other which has all of these WiFi problems. Changes in the software pushing the hardware in ways that not all the devices can cope with? Seems like some network traces could tell the story pretty quickly. Mmmmm.....next stop will be the Genius Bar but I don't expect them to be much help as I think this one is beyond a simple restore or deletion of the network parameters.

I got another iPhone 5C and two iPads that I am afraid to move to 8.x cause I am not sure what the results are going to be and I can't go back if things go "bad". So in a holding pattern with what works until the way forward is more clear. Have two Macbook Pros that I am hesitant to move forward as well waiting to see if the new OS also has these issues.

P.S. I am happy Apple user of 20+years and have lived through a few things with them in the past but have always found the quality and value high. This situation feels different some how. Tell me you have an issue and are working on it. Tell me that not all phones are equal but they are with the range of Apple expectation. Tell me something.....

iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

i know this is likely moot, but why does apple inaiston these settings? No other device i own is that picky about wfi settings. Problem is on the 5s, not so much on the six, every time theres tge tiniest change on gge router, anything ios has to be forgotten and setup again, just plain annoyed, a roku, two tv's and a laptop have no issues. Addtionally, some 5ghz channels just plain wont work with ios

Just another vote here for iPhone 5S with 8.1 and still have wifi issues. Apple employees do appears to monitor these forums as I got contacted by one after reporting things here. I helped them to collect debug work but havent heard back since. I was quite annoyed to have waited this long for 8.1 and the problem persists. At this point, I've just about had it with Apple and will probably not get an iPhone 6 because of this (since they too suffer from this bug). Apple better get their *** in gear and fix this and release 8.1.1 IMMEDIATELY with a fix for this issue!

Guys, there is a whole topic on 8.0.2 with the same grand issue of wifi problems.

We said it there and Im transfering the message here also.

PLEASE report your issues to apple feedback.

They dont care what we say here.

At least there, it's the best we can do.

Kind of like a complaint form.

Everyone should report this problem to the feedback form.

Posting a link below.

Take the time to do it.

Pretty sure I found the solution. At least this seemed to work for me so far.

Disable Wi-Fi networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.

As shown in this article: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2014/09/fix-ios-8-wifi-problems.html

Let me know if it works for you too!

Here is some info for those who think this is not Apple's fault or an Apple IOs problem.

I have 3 Iphone 4S, 2 5S, 2 Ipads, 5 kindles, apple tv, Ruku 3, Xbox 360, Macbook Pro, and many other wireless devices in my home.

The only ones dropping connections are my Iphones, Ipads and Apple TV. They drop connections all the time.

Now for the WiFi. I have the latest Apple Time Capsule. When the problem got worse with each OS update I thought my Time Capsule was bad, even though the problem is only with my IOs devices. To try and fix it I bought an airport express and set that up instead of my time capsule. The problem is still there.

Seriously, this problem has to be fixed soon. I cannot even use the over price Apple devices I own. I payed those prices only because historically I have gotten what I payed for: Devices with no issues.

P.S. My 3 Iphone 4S stopped working on WiFi altogether until I set them to static IP. They absolutely will not get an IP on any wireless since IOs 8.0. Thanks apple for making 3 of my phones useless on any WiFi other than at my home, where I can give them a static IP.
