Q: iPhone 6 plus rear camera blurry/wobbly (not focusing)

iPhone 6 plus rear camera is not focusing, won't remain stable and is blurry no matter how still I get whether video or picture.  Automatic or manual focus not working either.   Front facing camera works fine.   Seems OIS isn't doing anything but making it worse.

Here is a photo(below) taken while completely still that never focuses automatically or manually and is vibrating vertically as if taken in motion.

Videos become wobbly and out of focus.  Link: https://vid.me/Nxh

Steps I have taken:

1. Closed all apps and forced reboot of phone.

2. Reset all settings.

3. Restored phone to latest 8.1 software and set up as new phone.

Results still the same even if I use 3rd party camera/video app.

I have the same problem, and sounds as though it may come from having phone on a bicycle mount

As this was my second failure in six weeks I did not go through all the steps Apple suggests a second time, which is time consuming. They do that to determine if it is primarily a software issue. It's not.  Follow the automated diagnostic procedure that is sent to Apple prior to taking your phone in. Make your appointment and point them to this thread. They will want to run another software test there. Tell them to save you and them time. IT'S THE HARDWARE!

First time they replaced the iPhone plus for me. Second time they replaced the camera in store, one hour. The no charge invoice listed a $69.95 cost BTW. This is the way to go as all your settings, etc are left alone. Much easier and faster than reconfiguring a new phone.

I do believe they have a defect related to vibration that they will eventually work out. My iPhone 1 had a similar vibration issue. As I mountain bike several times per week, let's see how long this one lasts. I've become a default real-life equipment tester as have all of you! Love my 6+ otherwise so not here to bash Apple!!

I'm having the exact same issue, my phone wont focus at all.......if i take up close photos they come out perfect, but anything more then 2 feet away is super blurry, not sure what happened, but it was not like this when i first bought the phone, so I'm not sure if it IS the OIS malfunctioning, or a software issue? I've even restored the phone, erased and started from scratch, anything i could find and try I've done, the only issue is i have bad luck with apple's sync so i don't want to swap out a new phone. ugh.

Similar issue here. I don't understand how Apple got so many things wrong with one phone. My current issues are: camera doesn't work, compass needs to be calibrated every few hours, alway worry about getting my 6+ bend. I hope at least I will get a replacement without much trouble.

Same problem here. I have an appointment today  at the Apple store. After reading through this thread I am convinced that it is a vibration issue. My story is slightly different. Around three weeks ago I went for a short ride on my motorcycle and when I got to my destination the camera would not focus. It just looked like trying to see with beer googles on.

The next morning I checked it again and all was fine. I took many more pictures but I did notice the pictures didn't seem as clear as when the phone was new. It wasn't enough to make me go to the store though.

Two days ago I went on a long motorcycle ride and after 140 miles the camera was back to being blurry. After two days it is still not working so taking it in.

Having visited and been given a tour of a major Apple supplier in Taiwan a few years back, Foxlink, I'm a bit familiar with the testing protocols and test machinery that is used. It is really very impressive. They do extensive vibration and drop testing to avoid these very issues. Apparently it's not creating real-world situations or this should have shown up. Hopefully they will learn from our collective experience. Still love the phone!

Had the 6 Plus 128gb Silver for 6-7 weeks now.

Taking photos all day with no problems, arrive home later that evening and attempt to take a photo and all of a sudden, blurry video and photos.

Restored iPhone to latest firmware. No luck.

    Here is the real kicker!

I traveled into the Apple Store Broadway, Sydney on Sunday to ask for a new phone.

I walked in and spoke to one of the minions who was helpful, I simply asked to speak to the most senior person in the store.

This gentleman approached with my a friendly attitude but I was very frustrated, I explain to him the situation, showed him the device (Not a scratch on it, looks like new from the box, never dropped) and I said that considering I have had the phone not even 7 weeks, spent $1249 out right, I am not happy with a refurb, I would like a brand new phone.

I have spend countless dollars at apple and i literally have every product in every category.

He said that because i had purchased the iPhone from the Online store (Pre-order) that he cannot help me, they are two separate business and I need to go call Apple on Monday morning to arrange a replacement phone.

Considering it takes me 45mins to get into the city plus find parking, you can imagine that was not the response i was hoping for.

Fast forward to this morning, Monday.

I have called Apple, had a discussion with them who have been very helpful (as all apple people are). He is investigating into the situation where I was told Apple online and Apple store's are separate business.
    Which should be interesting.

    Opinion:

Do you think it is too much to ask for a brand new iPhone in this current situation?
I don't want it repaired, i don't want a refurb. I want a new in the box iPhone.

The phone is in perfect condition even the store manager agreed, it looks like Ive had it less than a few days.

For a 6-7 week old phone, the price I paid, I don't think its too much to ask.

Here is a photo taken of my keyboard while composing this post.

    IMG_4706.JPG

PS: Open the camera app, enable the rear facing camera, then put the iPhone camera up next to your ear. You can hear it vibrating very quickly.

I will post the results of my uphill battle with replacing my phone.

I too just started having the exact same issue with the rear focusing camera on my iPhone 6Plus.  Have reported my S/N device to Apple and am ready to bring it to a local Genius bar for a full replacement ASAP.  Not a happy camper at all having missed all the Thanksgiving holiday photo opportunities....

So I had rebooting and dropped call problems and reset my phone to factory defaults.  I didn't restore from backups and my phone (6+128) has been more stable and only dropping calls once in a while.  Then a week or two ago, the camera started having the jitters (blurry photos) like the example above.  In addition, photos sometimes have wavy results too (attached).  I have an appointment tomorrow to have it replaced.  I'm disappointed.  This reminds me a little of the PowerBook 5300, which had issues, but only a  few relative to those sold; seems the same here.  Potentially millions sold, but a few thousand with problems (?).  I hope my replacement is one of the good ones this time.

I think I have a similar issue, with my iPhone 6+ 64GB, though mine seems much more minor compared to the wavy, double-visioned pictures on this thread

The last photo I took that turned out fine was a panorama last weekend

    IMG_2534.JPG

This evening I went to take a photo of a room for an online listing and the camera simply won't autofocus. Shots of something close (<30cm) seem to look ok but the autofocus still doesn't work.

    IMG_2542.JPG

I can't hear any clicking in the lens if I hold it close to my ear, so it may or may not be the OIM issue everyone else is having. I've rebooted my phone, quit the camera app etc but I haven't done any software restore. As much as it pains me, I'll give that a go now.

I'm in New Zealand and bought the phone from the NZ Apple online store. There are no Apple Stores in NZ so I guess I'll have to call them up tomorrow and see what happens. The issue with no Apple Stores in NZ is you send your phone to a third party authorized repairer and they have to diagnose the problem, meaning you don't have your phone while they are doing so. Then they'll send it to Sydney, and they send you a new phone. At least, that's been my earlier experience with an iPad and an iPhone previously

An update to my post above. The software restore didn't improve things

    BUT

After wiping and reinstalling iOS, then skipping through all the setup screens to get to the camera, for about 30 seconds I had complete control. The camera focused without any issues. But after that 30 seconds or so, the problem presented itself again. After installing my backup, I had no camera control at all, so the problem persists, and it'll be a call to Apple in the morning.
