Q: iPhone 6 plus rear camera blurry/wobbly (not focusing)

iPhone 6 plus rear camera is not focusing, won't remain stable and is blurry no matter how still I get whether video or picture.  Automatic or manual focus not working either.   Front facing camera works fine.   Seems OIS isn't doing anything but making it worse.

Here is a photo(below) taken while completely still that never focuses automatically or manually and is vibrating vertically as if taken in motion.

Videos become wobbly and out of focus.  Link: https://vid.me/Nxh

Steps I have taken:

1. Closed all apps and forced reboot of phone.

2. Reset all settings.

3. Restored phone to latest 8.1 software and set up as new phone.

Results still the same even if I use 3rd party camera/video app.

I got the same problem here in Thailand. I brought iphone6 plus 64GB from USA bring it back to use in Thailand for 1 month.

And now my iphone's camera cannot take a picture. The camera isn't focusing. T_T

Is anybody can give me a suggestion? What to do?

I went to iCare in Thailand, they refused to accept claim from me because my iphone was from USA. T_T

I would contact the apple store in the USA via the website.

Speak to them regarding this issue, one reason I purchase apple products is because of the warranty, they will help you. It may just be a bit tricky with the postage.

Yes, agree! This is a manufacturing defect, it is a hardware issue and Apple will fix it for you. It has happened to me twice in five weeks and is now a known issue. Apple US might be able to get you a local accomidation even though you did not purchase locally. Advise you speak by with them by phone. They are generally very helpful.

Well I'll chime in too. My iphone 6 Plus just started doing the same thing. I can hear the clicking noise when i hold the camera up to

my ear. Btw, I'm a FedEx courier and use the phone endless during the day for GPS navigation. I usually leave the phone on

the dash and it bounces around (sometimes violently). I can assume that may have attributed to the problem. Verizon is sending

me a replacement phone. However, the phone will be a "reconditioned" phone, which I don really agree with. I purchased my phone brand new when they were released and and also pay for extended protection plan. I kinda feel that I should get a new phone. Once I get the replacement phone, I'm never going to

set it on the dash while I'm driving again. Guess I'll have to keep it in my lap or in my pocket from now on.

Well that is a good reason not to become a Verizon subscriber! Your phone is nearly brand-new. That's not right. This is definitely a hardware issue and a defect in design. It is happening to more and more people. I suggest arguing with them a bit more about this. You deserve a new phone.

If at all possible, bypass the carrier and go to the Apple store. A refurbished for such a new phone is not right IMHO.

I noted earlier in a post that the second time this happened to me the Apple Store staff offered to replace the camera only. That was a lot more convenient because then you don't have to deal with configuring a new phone again. It actually will save you a lot of time. It took about an hour.

That's interesting. I have my iPhone on a cradle in my car but I'm lucky if I'm driving for more than an hour per day. Still I'm in Christchurch, New Zealand and an earthquake in 2010 munted the roads so the constant bumps from the random lumps and potholes could have done it. Hardly surprised it broke if you're a FedEx driver and it takes such little driving to cause the fault

Still, it shouldn't happen. My phone is a new one, or so I'm told, replaced under AppleCare after I complained. I didn't have the extended protection plan but sweet talked the customer manager on the phone who sided with me that I shouldn't have to pay $55 to get sent a new phone because if there was an Apple store in NZ I would have just taken it there to get a replacement, and that won't have costed me $55.

My new phone arrived this morning at my workplace so I'll get it going tonight.

That's nice to hear! I am not someone who is going to bash Apple. They have always treated me very well. But sometimes one must be a squeaky wheel…

In Arizona they replaced my phone with a new one because they didn't have the camera parts in the Phoenix area. They did say they had never heard of the problem, so might still be a rare occurrence.

That is silly. Your phone should be able to be used in anyway without fear of a hardware fault.

If you choose to mount your phone in your car then you should. If there is an issue its apple's place to deal with it.

AN update to those who are interested.

I Have had a ton of back and forth with apple here in Australia. They habe been very helpful as always.

I Explained my case, I purchased outright online, $1249.00 AUD. I have had the phone no more than 7 weeks. It is spotless. I don't want a refurb I want a new in the box from the factory phone.

after explaining I have had refurb phones in the past and they have been perfect, my argument is if my phone was a few months old. I would have no issues.

the price I paid. The time I have had it. The condition it is in. That's simply not good enough.

Not that it should matter but the money I spend with them. I have countless apple products.

They simply asked me to provide high quality photo evidence of the condition of the phone. No drops etc.  Which I was happy to do.

Also had to provide a video of myself demonstrating the issue.

A Little tedious but however I have been approved to receive a new in the box iphone. Advanced replacement.

Once I recieve my new iphone in the post. I send back my old.

    Happy days.

Yeah it definitely is stupid. I used my 4, 4S and 5S in the exact same way so it's a fatal flaw if driving on bumpy roads are all that's needed to break the camera.

I'm just happy I was able to get the extended AppleCare warranty service despite not having paid for it. I'm hoping maybe my new phone came from a different factory or different component manufacturer so the problem doesn't recur.

Hi, thought I'd chime in here.  I had the same problem and have only run with my phone maybe 3 times since having it.  They replaced it with a refurbished phone (which also annoys me, but even refurbished ones are pretty new), and we'll see how the new phone works.  I'm certainly not going to limit my use of it when jogging or as a GPS device.  If this OIS is that fragile, they need to redesign the entire thing and give us all new ones.  I'm stunned to tell you the truth.  I don't believe this is as isolated as Apple thinks if only minimal vibrations within TWO WEEKS of owning it can render the entire camera useless.

Curious as to how this plays out...

II've been using my iPhone 6 plus since November 10.... And after updating my IOS to 8.1.2 last December 23rd, I just noticed on the following day that my front camera couldn't do the "Auto focus" in taking photos.... I'm so disappointed, knowing that it's Christmas Eve and I have my phone in my hand and couldn't take a good/sharp shots since all photos taken are blurry.... Christmas passed and I tried chatting with apple support and reading all the forums regarding the camera issue of iPhone 6plus, thought the resetting to original setup of this phone won't help at all.  So I went to Apple store (12.27) , made an appointment by 8:30PM.  The guy said, I'm not the only one who complained this kind of issue.  He advised me to back up all my data/documents/photos & videos and come back after doing so.

i Have another appointment, 12.28, the guy said they will try to replace the camera and if it still didn't work, they "might" replace it with a new one. I hope its really a new phone from the box, and not the refurbished ones....

ANy update to those who complained and reported their camera on iPhone 6plus? Or any similar issues? Please let me know.
