Buying used Ipad 2 still worth it

Hello everyone,

I am a Mac user for about a year now and really like the concept of the Apple ecosystem. Recently, a friend offered me his Ipad 2 (16gb) for 150€ and I am considering to buy it, but I'm not sure yet. Maybe you can help me with that.

I'm planning on getting an Ipad for quite a while now, and I want to use it for simple surfing in the internet, reading e-books, managing my media library and Evernote and watch movies occasionally. Will the Ipad 2 enable me to have a fluent experience with all that, considering that iOS 8.1 was just released. I also want to see if a tablet is the right thing for me and if this should be the case, I'd probably sell the Ipad 2 again after a few months and use the money to buy a new one. At least that would be my plan.

Do you have any input on my case? I'd be very thankful.

Regards,

Cheagor

In terms of your question of performance ... well, generally speaking it's a bad idea to get a product when it's nearing its "end of life" and certainly the iPad 2 is. If you want to get as much of your money back as possible in a resale, you're not going to do well with it nearing end of life. At the moment Apple does say it will no longer let the iPad 2 update to the next level of the iOS, the value is going to drop.

I would generally buy one or two generations back (an iPad 4 for example) and get one that can get an AppleCare plan, and resell it prior to the expiration of the plan (say about six months prior). I think you'll do a lot better, money-wise that way.

Hello, my family still lives in Germany and I was considering sending them a refurbished iPad 2 that was offered for $229.

WE still have an iPad 2 at home that everyone still uses frequently. If you are not in need of a retina display it is a great machine wRoth the money.

i Just bought an iPad Mini 2 with retina display for $229 for Christmas so there are also those deals out there. my opinion, I would do it if you plan on keeping it. Worth it for FaceTime alone
