yosemite mail: blue dot although mail read (exchange)

Thank you for the tip. I too was restarting Mail to fix this problem, not sure why I didn't just try changing folders.

At least it doesn't show an unread in the dock badge, that would be really irritating.

I've seen this problem since Yosemite, mostly with the mail from my Outlook account. Gmail accounts seem to clear the unread blue dot more reliably. If I change the view from the "Inbox" to one of the individual mail accounts and then back to Inbox, the dots are correct. I would love a fix, but none of the Yosemite updates have changed this behavior.

Other problems with Mail on Yosemite:

1) If a new message come in and I open it right away, the content of the message won't load. It looks like the message is blank and the spinning "wait" icon just keeps going, even though the message is not really blank at all.

2) There are cases where email for a short period of time, usually in the early morning and perhaps usually when I've looked at some messages with my iPad or iPhone, where the Outlook mail isn't loaded into Mail at all. I can open Outlook at see that it is there, but it never appears in Mail.

I've had all of these issues (non-disappearing blue dot, blank new message, messages not appearing on my laptop). I can open Outlook at see that it is there, but it never appears in Mail," is the most serious for me.

This is not only enormously frustrating but has caused me to miss important messages that never appeared on my laptop. In my experience you can manually force the messages to appear in Mail by flagging them on the iPhone and then checking mail again in Mail--they'll then appear (and then you have to unflag them if you don't want them to remain flagged). But that only helps when you already know the messages are there because you've spotted them on the iPhone. This only happens on my Exchange account.

This* is STILL an issue in 10.10.3 (June 28 2015) and the latest 10.10.4 beta (14E36b).

*Details:

- Unread indicator appears despite message being read

- Occurs on my Exchange Online (Office365) account

- I've posted feedback to Apple about this using the 'Feedback Assistant' available in the 10.10.4 Public Beta

This is still an issue in 10.10.5, although it now only seems to happen with my company Exchange account. Gmail accounts and 'normal' CPanel/Plex-hosted IMAP accounts don't seem to have the same problem.

I did not have this problem until after we moved from an internal exchange server to cloud based mail on 365. If I read an email on my Mac in Mail, it is marked as read on iOS devices. If I read a message on iOS it stays as unread in Mac Mail. All other syncing functions work fine like deleting moving messages to folders.

I'm getting exactly this too. Don't need to quit mail to get rid of dot though; just switch to a different folder and back.

This issue is very frustrating.

Thanks for the tip, quick way to get rid of the dots without restarting. Waiting for an actual fix for this

I still have this problem even when upgrading to El Capitan (10.11.3). Is there any update on when this problem will be fixed? It is really annoying...

Hi - I know this is an old thread but I found that if you switch from the new to the classic view in Mac mail that the blue dot problem goes away - new/unread and read emails behave normally FWIW.
