iOS 8.2 on iPad2 -- fresh install advice?

So I'm considering wiping my iPad2 clean, restoring factory settings, installing iOS 8.2 then putting back on the things/ apps that I currently use. And I wondered if anyone had any advice or experience to share in that matter.

It's been updated with each iOS since whatever it shipped with back in 2010, with lots of documents (pdfs in iBooks) and apps installed and at times removed. It runs well enough on iOS7, but I had been thinking of wiping it clean and reinstalling since before the iOS8 update. It's a bit laggy, slow but not unusable and not that annoying. It's just easier to put back what I want than to take off what I don't use if you get my drift. So I was thinking a fresh install may straighten it out somewhat.

I know that iOS8 is probably pushing the boundary of what it can handle, but I still like the idea of the clean install and that's the iOS that's available now. Besides, who can resist the appeal of a new OS?

Specifically, I'm looking at this process Re: My ipad 2 ran great on with IOS 7. Now with IOS 8 it is slow and choppy and full of error messages. Is this Apples way of forcing my IPad2 into obsolesence?

Thoughts? Warnings? Encouragements?

I might suggest updating to the latest version of the operating system first to see how your iPad runs on that. You mention 8.2. But you really mean 8.0.2 as there is no actual version 8.2. The 8.0.2 was replaced yesterday by version 8.1. several iPad users have reported that this latest update solves some of the lagging and other problems.

Why do you suggest that? It's the cleaning up the iPad with fresh install that's really my bigger goal. The updated iOS is just a bonus. I'd hate to update it and then find that it's even laggier with the new iOS.

The IPad 2 was a great investment since it was able to handle IOS 4.3 to IOS 7.1.2 That's over 3 years of upgrades! Unfortunately IOS 8 shows the IPad's weaknesses and you will probably experience lagging, crashes, etc that you never encountered before.

If I could rewind the clock my iPad 2 would still be running IOS 7.1.2 but unfortunately Apple doesn't allow that. Talk about a way to motivate sales! Allow you to upgrade and then slow your device down and introduce issues you never had before.

Fortunately my wife's Ipad 2 is still running IOS 7.1.2 and so is my iPhone 4s. They still have a few years of use to them. But now I am looking at an iPad Air....

So Apples plan worked like it was supposed to.
