My daughter has given me her old MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.11 on it. I want to update to a more modern version and I was wondering if I could update it directly to OS X 6 or newer with the relevant discs of do I have to have more memory. I currently have 1gb and I suspect it won't be enough to update the system without adding more memory.... Any advice please

1GB is quite low. What model Macbook do you have? Check the Apple menu, About this Mac, click More Info and post the hardware model (eg Macbook 3,1)

THanks Matt for the speedy reply......it is a MacBook 2.1 so very old model to say the least, I am wondering whether there is any pointin updating it and buying new..... What your professional opinion ?
If the computer is still working fine, I would give it a go!
You could get up to 2GB in that computer, so you'd need to buy 2 x 1GB RAM chips like these:
You can buy 10.6.3 disks from Amazon or other online sources:
If you do the upgrade I would be inclined to erase the current hard drive and install 10.6 as a clean install. You're likely to have preferences and settings from 10.4 which may not be optimal.
