Bluetooth speakers stop transferring music every 5 - 10 seconds

Since I upgraded my MacBook (late 2009, white unibody) from the latest version of Mountain Lion to Yosemite (most recent version) my Bluetooth speakers are basically rendered useless. Every 5 - 10 seconds the connection drops and the music isn't transferred anymore, after 0.5 - 1 second pause it continues.

I tried fixing it using the terminal commands that helped with Bluetooth Audio issues in Mountain Lion using this app, unfortunately to no avail.

Do you have any clues how to fix this?

I just experimented with my Bluetooth headset (same issues, the sound is crackling really bad) and to my surprise this issue doesn't occur when I speak, so the upstream seems to be fine. I recorded a 30 second piece of me speaking and the crackling didn't even occur once.
