Q: Updating older library/events fail

Now that I am between projects and have a moment, I've decided to update all the existing libraries/events/projects from my FCP 10.0.x days but I am running into a few problems doing so.

Here is one: a screenshot showing a representative example of many older projects.:

The thick gray line in the middle is just my edit to save space here. That list goes on forever. I didn't count how many similar folders there are within "High Quality Media" but it must be upwards of 80 or 90. I opened a representative folder so one can see the contents. As you can see there is no movie file. Issue one: why are there no movie files in the high quality media folders? And shouldn't there be an "Original Media" folder in there too?

Also, the "CurrentVersion.fcpproject" file is a cypher. Double clicking on it elicits a dialog box with an old-time FCP7 icon saying: "Your trial of Pro Maintenance Tools is outdated." Okay...so what? Why doesn't this tell me the project is outdated and ask me to update for FCP 10.1.3? And why doesn't this show up in FCP when I try using the Update Libraries command? And why doesn't it show up in Events Manager, which has been no help and I have a question about that as well.

As I mentioned before I had employed Events Manager before the change to 10.1.x but it now appears to be worthless. In its lists it only shows like three volumes where some FCP projects reside even though I have something like 6 or 7 that hold such data. And where it does show a volume there is no expand arrow to open them to select individual events to open. It's all of nothing.

Anyway, my limited expertise here has me feeling I'll never be able to update these. Any suggestions? I've gone through Ripple Training tutorials and various white papers on the subject but I have found remedies for what I illustrate above. Any help appreciated. Thx

Unfortunately your screenshot is not showing for me.

Are you showing the contents of which folder? A project folder from older 10.0.x? An event folder?

You are not supposed to "open" an .fcpproject file. In 10.0.x, the application relied on these files being at the right places in the folder hierarchy and it would find them.

What happens when you try to update one of those volumes to 10.1.x?

I can see the image, but I'm not sure what you're trying to point out here. Personally I would go into the old style libraries for events and projects and dump all the transcoded media and render files and thumbnails and peak data.

When you update to 10.1.x you update volumes, that is all the projects and events on a drive that are correctly located will be updated into a single library with the name of the drive.

Right. That was my understanding. But it only happened that way with one drive.

Ach. Clearly something's gone amiss with this FCPX paradigm shift. I can see I'm not even asking the right questions. I have to go figure out what ARE the right questions. I thought I was paying attention to what was being saved where, and what was and wasn't updated and when, etc. I'll be back when I sort out this mess I've made for myself. I also have to have a word with the Events Manager people.

    Sorry to bother y'all.
