Save as dialog box hides behind the dock

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite, the 'save as' dialog box will partly hide behind the dock. I can't see the 'save' nor the 'cancel' button.

Now I don't want the dock to auto hide, nor do I want to make it so small I can hardly see the icons, because when I do either of that I can of course see the buttons. I can therefore only cancel by pressing escape. Since that is not really efficient working for me, this minor issue annoys me to no end.

I use Word for Mac 2011 and have never had any issues with it before. This also only happens when creating Word documents in print mode view (changing the view makes the issue go away but when I go back to print mode view - which I have always used, the buttons are hidden behind the dock again!) I would appreciate any help ...

Which version of Word are you using? I had the same problem early on when using Yosemite but the 'bug' was fixed in newer updates to Word (I'm now on 14.4.5 on Office 2011). Have you updated the Office suite? Go to the Help menu of any Office app and select Check for Updates.

Good luck,

It happens to me as well. Seems like Yosemite can't really handle Save Dialog boxes very well yet...or at least the application does not. I haven't tried it with Word but it does happen to me with Chrome and Opera whenever I try to save a file, the dialog box's size goes all the way behind the dock and the save button can't be seen or clicked. So yeah whenever it happens I just click the arrow beside the filename then click it again. It's kind of a hassle really. I hope they fix it in the next system update.

This is happening to me, too, in Chrome. I've moved the dock out of the way to the left side to see if I can get to the bottom of the dialog box and raise it up a bit, but it's just out of reach. I changed the screen resolution and the dialog box then fit on the page. I made it shorter and then went back to my "best" resolution for the retina screen, and the dialog box stretched back down below the bottom of the screen again. I don't want to sacrifice resolution to solve the problem. Hope someone can figure this out.
