Q: Call failed Phone call continuity OS X Yosemite

Here's my situation:

- iPhone 5s (iOS 8.1) with AT&T and Macbook Air (mid 2012, OS X Yosemite)

- Handoff works great

- Phone call Continuity does not work

- If I try to make a call from my macbook air (e.g. contacts card with little blue phone icon [not face time]), the little black box for FaceTime phone calls on the top right appears and says "(Contact Name) ..... Using Your iPhone" with the option for Video (grayed out), Mute, and End. But almost immediately afterwards will say Call Failed with the option to Close or Retry

- I had an incoming call once that went to my macbook air, I actually didn't answer because it was inconvenient to at the time. Although I've had other incoming calls on my iphone, none went to my macbook air except that one time. Weird.

- It seems that Phone call Continuity is established and wants to function up until actually initiating a call.

- Typical settings are all correct, to my knowledge (i.e. FaceTime, iCloud, Apple ID, Allow iPhone Cellular Calls, WiFi network) and have tried signing in/out, restarting, and in different chronological order.

- Called Apple Support, spoke to 3 different people, two of which knew very little about Apple (e.g. asked me if my device was a 'Mac Air', asked me to turn on airplane mode on my laptop device, asked me to turn on airplane mode on the iPhone which I was using to call him....). The third asked me to wait for iOS 8.1, which hasn't helped.

- Went to Apple Store, they couldn't figure it out and said they'd elevate it to an Apple Engineer and I was suppose to hear back today, but have not.

- I've gone through so many solutions that have worked for other people, mostly including ensuring the "typical" settings are enabled. I've also tried 'allow incoming connections' inside the Firewall. At one point I thought it was my AT&T router that didn't support Universal Plug and Play (UPNP), but I went to the Apple Store and phone calls didn't work there either.

I'm basically at a wits end. This is nuts. Over a function that I probably won't use a lot. But it's the principal of the thing, it's supposed to work! Hahah. I'm glad I'm not alone in this problem. Hopefully a fix can be found.

Finally i got my resolution after none of the mentioned fixes worked... In my case it was the time setting!!

for everyone who still have this problem:

----> check both systems (iphone and your mac) if the Time-Setting is set to "automatic"!

in my case on my iphone automatic time-setting was disabled, causing outgoing calls to fail.

    now everything works totally fine!

I Went through many solutions for the issue with continuity But Couldn't find the resolution for it.

Finally Figured it out !!!! Solution in few simple steps.

    1) Connect your Mac / iphone / iPad in the same wifi network.

    2) Sign in to iCloud account in all the devices.

Iphone : Setting > iCloud > Sign in

Ipad : Setting > iCloud > Sign in

Mac : System Preferences >  iCloud > Sign in

Signing into iCloud account will help the devices to detect each other for a single user use and will give handoff access of continuity for apps.

    3) Sign in to FaceTime account in all the devices.

Iphone : Setting > FaceTime > Sign in > Iphone Cellular calls (Turn on)

Ipad : Setting > FaceTime > Sign in > Iphone Cellular calls (Turn on)

Mac :  FaceTime > Sign in

Signing into FaceTime account will give ur the access to connect calls from Mac / iphone / iPad.

    4) Turn Hands Off On:

       IPhone / IPad

Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps > Handoff (Turn On) , My Apps (Turn on) , App store (Turn on)

        Mac

System Preferences > General > “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices” (Turn on).

    Enjoy CONTINUITY!!!

Interesting. So that means using charles web proxy regularly might be the culprit for screwing it up for me. Thanks boioglu!

Latest model Mac Pro with iPhone 6 Plus--making calls fails here too.

(I'm connected to both Ethernet and WiFi, but removing the Ethernet doesn't help.)

I'm not desperate enough to start messing with unofficial sudo commands from strangers I'll await an official Apple solution.

This is what worked for me: in Contacts on the Mac, the blue phone icon appears in two different places: once below the phone numbers (labeled "audio"), and once on the right next to each phone number. I found that the icon to the right of the phone number is the one that works. The other one returns "call failed". I don't know if this is a bug or if they're actually two different functions. Anyhow, be sure to use the icon NEXT TO the phone number.

    Hi All

This might help a few people.  I have a time machine as my wireless hub no phone calls were working but I realised that I had disabled all IPv6 connections in the setup.  When this was enabled all phone connectivity works without fault.

I just want to report my own findings here in case others can benefit from them.

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012). I just did a clean install of Yosemite from a USB stick, and was experiencing the same problem where I could call out from my MacBook, but the call would fail when receiving. I checked all the settings as others have pointed out and nothing worked. What worked for me was to simply turn off the Wifi and use only the ethernet connection. When both are active, incoming calls fail. I can consistently reproduce this problem. So, I think this is a bug that Apple needs to fix.

    Best,

    Dyske

One more solution that may help others.  Routers now broadcast in 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz, but may do so under the same SSID.  But, if your phone and Mac are connecting under different Ghz then they may be on separate subnets (networks) as well.  This is a router configuration issue, so I can't say a blanket "here's how to fix it", but for mine I just renamed the 2.4Ghz SSID to a different name and was able to select the same SSID for both.  And it worked!
