Problems using 'Back to my Mac' with Yosemite

At home I have two Macs, an iMac and a MacBook, both running Mavericks. At work I use a MacBook Pro, also running Mavericks, and when I'm out I use a MacBook Air that was running developer preview of Yosemite.

My home iMac has now been upgraded to Yosemite. However when at work using my Mavericks MacBook I can no longer use 'Back to my Mac' to screen share back to my iMac, I get "Connection failed to "Conor's iMac", but I can still connect to the MacBook at home running Mavericks. I've also tried connecting to both Macs at home using my Yosemite MacBook Air but I get the same error.

I can screen share between all Mac when they are on the local network, but as soon as I'm using iCloud to screen share the only connection I can make is between Macs running Mavericks. It's almost as if 'Back to my Mac' via iCloud is broken in Yosemite.

I've tried disabling and reenabling 'Back to my Mac', signing out of iCloud entirely and then logging in again, but nothing I've tried so far will allow me to use iCloud to screen share between two Yosemite Macs.

Has anyone else seen this issue, or have any suggestions?

The ping6 and remote ssh commands I discussed in that other thread also work as expected. I have reason to believe Apple conclusively addressed the problem with this update.

Hi guys, thank for this thread, I've had the same problem with B2MM and also the irritating thing with several copies of one of my Macs name. Since Yosemite 10.10.1 almost all of my three Macs (Mac mini and Macbook Air on the same LAN and an iMac at my work) could use B2MM. I can now see them all in my Finder-Window since the iOS upgrade, the last issue tonight was that I could not connect with my AppleID to my Macbook Air from the other to. I used

If you have issues using Back to My Mac - Apple Support

and realized that I had changed my AppleID password some short time ago. In settings, on my Macbook Air that I could not connect to, I got to "iCloud" and clicked "log out". There were a lot of "safety warnings" that my mail, contacts and so forth would be erased from my computer, but I went on. Then I logged in again with my credentials and now everything works like sunshine. Hope this can help you, thank you all for posting, this thread made my day!

I'm glad 10.10.1 fixed the issue for you guys, but unfortunately for me, I can report that 10.10.1 did NOT fix the issue for me. I have a Late-2013 27" iMac and a Mid-2013 11" MacBook Air, both running OS X 10.10.1. I have an Airport Extreme 802.11ac router at home.

BTMM always works locally with the iMac showing up in the Finder window on my MBA. When I'm outside the home with my MBA, BTMM is spotty. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, even if I'm at the same remote location. I found that opening Screen Sharing and typing in my iMac's BTMM address (computername.BTMMid.members.btmm.icloud.com) would usually work. But after updating both my computers to 10.10.1, neither BTMM nor using the BTMM address with Screen Sharing work consistently.

I can use Plex remotely to view my media, so I know my iMac is on and connected to the internet via my Airport Extreme at home. I just don't understand why BTMM won't work.

It worked on day one of 10.10.1 for 3 out of 4 of my machines - MBA, MBP, iMac 27"Retina. My iMac27" 2010 worked on day 2, but was slow to connect. Once in, it worked fine. Give it a little time, it looks like the ice is broken and servers are now firing up.

I wonder if they shut it down to use the servers for other things like Yosemite downloads and iOS 8, or if it was broken for real...

Starting down the road of old Windows. I hope they keep up the highest possible standards.

Unfortunately, I've been trying for the past two days. My iMac doesn't show up in Finder on my MBA and when I use my iMac's BTMM address with Screen Sharing, it times out and gives me the "Connection failed to "computername.BTMMid.members.btmm.icloud.com"" error message. I also cannot ping or SSH into my iMac using the BTMM address.

I spoke too soon. BTMM was working until yesterday. Now it's not.

Some time after the remote Mac goes to sleep, it disappears from Shared and can no longer be remotely accessed by any means. The amount of time required after entering system sleep and its disappearance from Shared is yet to be determined.

My iMac is set not to sleep; even having the Mac stay awake doesn't help with the issue. The display turns off after 20 minutes, but I have it specifically set not to sleep so that I can avoid any potential issues like this. For me, it can't be a sleep issue.
