Q: Problems using 'Back to my Mac' with Yosemite

At home I have two Macs, an iMac and a MacBook, both running Mavericks. At work I use a MacBook Pro, also running Mavericks, and when I'm out I use a MacBook Air that was running developer preview of Yosemite.

My home iMac has now been upgraded to Yosemite. However when at work using my Mavericks MacBook I can no longer use 'Back to my Mac' to screen share back to my iMac, I get "Connection failed to "Conor's iMac", but I can still connect to the MacBook at home running Mavericks. I've also tried connecting to both Macs at home using my Yosemite MacBook Air but I get the same error.

I can screen share between all Mac when they are on the local network, but as soon as I'm using iCloud to screen share the only connection I can make is between Macs running Mavericks. It's almost as if 'Back to my Mac' via iCloud is broken in Yosemite.

I've tried disabling and reenabling 'Back to my Mac', signing out of iCloud entirely and then logging in again, but nothing I've tried so far will allow me to use iCloud to screen share between two Yosemite Macs.

Has anyone else seen this issue, or have any suggestions?

It has been working for me.  10.10.3 needs to be installed on both machines.  An other experience?

    Thanks for reporting that.

If anyone wants to report that it works, and they only tested locally, please don't bother. We already know it works locally.

It's WAN functionality that is broken for BTMM.

Works for me over WAN (LAN's always worked).

I've seen one problem.  When first connect to whatever WiFi i'm on, if I immediatly go to BTMM I've had it not work.  Specifically looks like a legacy remote mac listed under Shared sidebar.  If I let it cycle, then connects fine.

USUALLY sidebar Shared items is empty when I'm not connected to wifi--but not always.

and 10.10.2 devices do not work over WAN.  doesnt even see them.

It's been 141 days (nearly 5 months) since the final version of Yosemite was released, 225 days since the first public beta was released, and 277 days since it was released to developers.

The implication being the shared Mac will disappear from "Shared" after a period of time. I have not enumerated the hours, minutes, and seconds. Perhaps you could do that. Much appreciated.

Based on some of your previous posts where you basically told people that they should stop complaining and posting here, I assumed you were telling @twayneo1 to wait for a fix.  Since that was apparently not your intention, I apologize.

In figuring out the days though, it just surprised me even more that there is not a fix yet for this issue.

No worries. Based on previous OS X upgrades it's taken Apple several point updates for them to restore BTMM's previous reliability. In other words we may just have to wait for 10.10.4 or 5 if not later. This one does seem to be taking longer to get there though.

It is important for those who may have overlooked the purpose of this site that Apple does not use it as a bug reporting facility, and that filing feedback (developer or otherwise) or contacting AppleCare are the only correct methods to let them know. So anyone who hasn't done that already, should. Reports of success, or anyone with additional troubleshooting suggestions to contribute to this Discussion would be very welcome. Other than that the only purpose this particular thread serves is for all of us to cry on each other's shoulders, which accomplishes exactly nothing. That's the reason for my earlier comments.

I installed 10.10.3. BTMM is just as broken as it has been all along in Yosemite. No changes for me.

It seems to be taking a LOT longer.

I would argue that while excessive crying on one another's shoulders does nothing, some crying on each other's shoulders can be beneficial.  Whether you're talking to a psychologist or a customer service representative or your significant other, being able to vent about something, irrespective of a solution, can be helpful.  Additionally, good customer service can engender brand loyalty; most of the time, all people want to hear is, "I hear you, and I will see what I can do," or something along those lines.

I must be missing either a joke or a barb, but why would you think I work for Comcast?
