Exchange & Mail: how to change username?

Hello community,

I have a weird behavior on my Mac OS X Yosemite native application Mail :-) I actually want to use seamlessly my corporate Exchange email account on my iPhone, iPad and Mac. The latter doesn't work for outgoing emails (SMTP server seems disconnected). I figured out that on my iOS devices, I can actually change the username which differs a little bit with the auto-discovery username that Mac OS X set automatically.

One screenshot from my Mail application:

Screenshot from my iPhone:

Any idea on how we can change the username which should be mschoonbroodt@pfsweb.com instead of just using mschoonbroodt? I checked it as well on the Microsoft OWA and I need to use the @pfsweb.com to login. Why is it greyed out on the Mac and not on iOS devices? Any idea if I can modify some files via the Unix terminal?

See the STMP server is disconnected which is not good at all. Receiving works, I know it's weird - but on my iPhone both works thus I'd like to try a username change.

Thank you for your support.

Bump on this. I have an Exchange account where the user name is "xxxxxx@schooladdress.edu" that set up on my Macbook Air. The account synced over to my iMac via "Internet Accounts" but ripped the "@schooladdress.edu" part off so Im only left with the prefix. And of course its all grayed out on accounts tab in Mail... *** guys! Let me make my own changes or don't change my user name for me.

The @domain.com is being stripped from the account user name when the account is imported from the internet accounts section of iCloud keychain. You have to delete the account and re-add it, but since it was added through iCloud keychain, when you try to delete it it wants to remove the account from all of your computers using internet accounts through iCloud keychain. The work around is to disable keychain access in preferences --> iCloud (on the computer with the issue), delete the mail account, re-add the mail account and then re-enable keychain access.

Timothy,

The issue has NOT been resolved on Yosemite. We have 3 MacBooks running Yosemite and all of them have the same issue with different Exchange accounts. The Exchange accounts that are been shared via iCloud strip the @mydomain.com from the Exchange user name account. This is a huge problem, because the Exchange account are shared via iCloud with different devices.

jeff, I understand the issue has not been "resolved" in that the problem still exists. My error in is that the solution "Mike the Computer Doctor" posted on Dec 1, 2014 @ 16:48 resolved the issue on my systems. I have both a Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.1. The issue was occurring on both of them. After unchecking Keychain in the iCloud settings, deleting the Exchange account, and then adding the Exchange account back into Internet Accounts, the problem was fixed. The Exchange account, in this case outlook.office365.com that requires the full username@domain.com, automatically inserted itself into all appropriate areas. I had to perform this action on both the Mac Mini and MacBook Pro. As you said, the issue has NOT been resolved on Yosemite, but this workaround does fix the issue. Thank you for pointing this out.

On Yosemite, disabling iCloud Keychain, temporarily, worked for me.

I disabled iCloud Keychain, deleted the Exchange account in question, reinstated the account with the correct username, then re-enabled iCloud Keychain (authorising it from another device). Right now my entire Exchange mailbox is re-downloading.

@IVDV I would try disabling iCloud Keychain on both Yosemite and Mavericks.

You can then edit the username on Yosemite (after deleting the acct. and re-instating if necessary)

Then re-enable on both.

No Keychain data is lost as it's in iCloud.

That's what I'd try. This should work.
