Iphone 4s with iOS 8.1 won't show on Itunes 12.1

My Iphone 4s won't show up on my Itunes. My Windows computer was recently updated from 8 to 8.1 or just some general update from 8.1 to 8.1.something. I also just got the most recent update for ITunes to 12.1 and for my Iphone to 8.1. I've tried the steps in:

iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes

but to no avail. I believe it has something to do with one or more of the updates but I honestly don't have the time to reinstall and check each so I'd appreciate some help with the issue. Thank you.
