shared album: subscribers photos not showing up in iPhoto

I have family sharing enabled and a shared album was created in iCloud in iPhoto. I have "subscribers can post" checked but when a device shares a picture it only shows up on the other devices, not in iPhoto. A blue dot appears in iPhoto indicating a new photo has been added but the photo is not there and the number count of the album doesn't increase. Anyone have any ideas what's going on? Seems like a Yosemite bug. ios8 on all devices. iPhoto version 9.6

for some reason I could no longer see my shared albums in Photos and your solution worked for me

Worked great for me too! I was very frustrated that my computer library showed 1,069 pics in a shared album and my iPhone showed 1,386. Finally after the refresh I had 2,300 pics finally!
