ReSound Enzo 9 hearing aids

I am in the trial period with a pair of the new Resound Enzo 9 hearing aids, and am pleased to find this forum.

I think the Enzo has a lot of commonality with the Linx family (more powerful?) and certainly the comments about the Linx seem applicable to the Enzo.

The basic sound quality of these instruments for the live spoken voice, in quiet and noisy environments is far better than any of the seven sets of aids I have had in the last 12 years, but there are problems which are holding me back from committing to a purchase. For the enormous price they do need to be perfect.

I am working with the audiologist and ReSound to solve the problems and making progress. At the moment my biggest problem is the quality of streamed sound, e.g. from a phone call, from an audiobook, internet radio etc. There is a rasp or crackle superimposed on all sound, like a badly tuned radio, which removes the possibility of enjoyable listening. My wife standing next to me can hear this coming out of my aids.

I had a similar but lesser problem with the microphone input, and the audiologist and ReSound rep made some adjustments which improved that, and because of the similarity of the problem I assumed that the streamed audio would also be improved.

I am having occasional problems with connectivity, and bluetooth connectivity has its drawbacks, even when it is connecting well. Sometimes I need to be able to temporarily unpair the aids without turning off bluetooth on the phone, but there doesn't seem to be a way. For example, in the car it is easier to use the car bluetooth system as I can answer a call with one touch on the dashboard even if the phone is in my pocket, and that cuts out the radio. To take the call directly to the phone, means I have to mount the phone in a cradle for every journey, and turn down the radio. Another example is also in car when I play children's stories for the grandchildren through the car audio system. If the Enzos are paired with the phone then the sound only goes to my aids, and if I turn off Bluetooth I don't get incoming calls. Problem would be solved if I could leave Bluetooth on but temporarily unpair. Maybe I am missing something?

Would be very interested to hear what others say about ReSound streaming sound quality....at least one mention in the Lix thread.

Thanks for "listening" !

I am in the same trial period. I've an iPhone 6 with ReSound Enzo. To be fair, when the streaming works well the sound is fine. It's a bit tinny but not raspy. My issues are the streaming drops momentarily when streaming music. Not phone, just music. It's like having a radio station that is on the edge of its range and it drops intermittently. Only there are just inches between the phone and aids.

However, the hearing aid is very good. I'm delighted with the sound quality.

I am afraid you need an iPhone 5 or later for the Bluetooth link to work.

I think your only option for getting the music played straight into your hearing aids is with a neckloop plugged in to the headphone socket, and your hearing aids set to loop.

The above is how I listen to sound from my computer since the hearing aids won't connect to my MBP (late 2013) Bluetooth.

Hi paulcelbridge. ReSound ENZO connects directly to the following iPhone devices (with iOS 7.0 or higher): iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6 iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5.

We do, however, offer several accessories to help connect your iPhone 4S with ReSound ENZO if you would like to stream music, including the ReSound Unite Phone Clip+. For more information, visit http://www.gnresound.com/hearing-aids/accessories/unite-phone-clip-plus.

Hey Andy,

I am doing a trial period of these right now. When you make a phone call are you able to adjust your "streaming" volume other than the phone adjustment? I have my phone on full volume but the streaming is still a bit soft.

When I try to adjust the volume of the hearing aids during the streaming it makes the volume change beep sounds but it has no affect.

Any input would be great. Did you come up with a solution for your Avaya desk phone?

Thanks.

What app do these hearing aids use?

Resound describes the Enzo 9 as for people with "profound hearing loss". Any experience with other Resound models for the iPhone?

I use the ReSound SMART app from the App Store. You can just use the HA Accessibility screen set to open with triple click. The ReSound app has some features I don't find particularly useful, but also has treble and bass control which triple click doesn't.

I Have Enzo 9 HAs and found they performed better with the iPhone 6 than iPhone 5. I previously used Siemens Nitro 701 and have found that the Enzo 9 picks up FAR more wind noise by comparison Why does the Enzo 9 have fewer options with the smart app than the Lynx or Lynx 2?

My ENZO 9s were rasply like that at first too with the Crackle. After multiple programming adjustments, we were able to get the crakle out.

For disconnecting your hearing aids but leaving bluetooth on, you can go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Hearing Devices -> Then tap on your hearing aids (first selection in blue). Then uncheck stream to right and stream to left.

Thanks lawgrace. My original post that you replied to is now nearly two years old, and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge!

I am now very happy with what I called the raspiness and crackle. There were two factors in getting here.

After posting two years ago I spent about three months going back and forth to the audiologist getting the settings tweaked until the raspiness was gone. Great...but then I realised I had lost some speech intelligibility because much of this comes from the sibilants (or raspiness).

So I spent the next three months going back forth to the audiologist turning up the raspiness. At the end of this the settings were right back to where they had been at the beginning, but I wasn't noticing the raspiness, and intelligibility was back. My brain had adapted, and become used to the new experience of hearing frequencies it hadn't heard in a long time and at first didn't like hearing.

The above is a somewhat simplified version of events and may not apply to everyone, but a good general piece of advice is to give yourself a good while to adapt to a big change.

My bluetooth problem seems to have evaporated too. A combination of different car, OS updates and getting used to things.

IM happy to hear, pun intended, that you solved most of your own issues. :-). I use the Lynx 2 hearing aids. Never had an issue with Bluetooth. Is always paired to my phone. I actually purchased an Apple Watch earlier this year just to be able to tune and tweak my hearing aids without ever taking my phone out of my pocket. Life saver.

Getting into my suv, it auto links. Even if paired to phone, the car will default for audio. Only way to avoid that is to turn Bluetooth off momentarily before starting car. Otherwise, it'll pair. Really never had an issue since I can always manually select which source I can use if I needed to change.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with my hearing aids. A lot of people don't understand how Bluetooth works and it's constant changing of connections while using hearing aids. If there is ever a change in an audio source and it's linked to the hearing aids, there will always be an audible change. It's not perfect, but us with severe loss, who cares, at least we can somewhat hear right.

Thanks arocho7,

I use the ReSound app on my apple watch to change settings sometimes, but it is a bit slower than the phone.

This weeks Watch OS3 update broke the watch app. It couldn't connect anymore, but there was an update to 3.3.2 yesterday which has got it working again 🙂
