Q: flashing question mark upon start up

Hello, I keep getting a flashing question mark in a folder upon start up,so i pressend alt r and went to disk utilities but all i can see there is a greyed out superdrive and disk 0 with osx base system beneth .I also tryed the option reinstall osx but it didnt find anything .Can someone please help me .
