Oct 22, 2014 7:10 AM in response to MLaeeqby rbrylawski,Actually Apple did address this and released iOS 8.1 Monday afternoon, which clearly stated the release fixed Bluetooth issues, among other things, like rolling out Apple Pay.
And from the threads here, it seems for lots and lots of people iOS 8.1 did indeed solve a lot of problems. Did you update to 8.1? What troubleshooting steps have you taken?

Oct 22, 2014 7:33 AM in response to rbrylawskiby nick101,It appears the main troubleshooting step is to come here and complain

Oct 22, 2014 8:03 AM in response to rbrylawskiby MLaeeq,Well mine is on 8.1 and i performed the following steps:
Reset network setting on the iPhone
Reset all Setting
Perform a hard reset (erasing all data and setting)
Reseet my Car Bluetooth
All these troubleshooting was done again after updating to 8.1. And believe me, if 8.1 really came with BIG fixes, Apple would be bragging about it

Oct 22, 2014 8:04 AM in response to MLaeeqby rbrylawski,Since you have a new iPhone, call Apple Technical Support. Your phone came with 90 days of technical support. If you're in the US, call: 1-800-MY-APPLE

Oct 22, 2014 10:15 AM in response to rbrylawskiby MLaeeq, honestly speaking, i didn't pay $650+ to buy a new phone defective phone and have apple repair / fix it. I will probbaly return this phone as well. The bluetooth is not discovering other devices nearby but the other devices can see my iPhone when they search..

Oct 22, 2014 10:21 AM in response to MLaeeqby rbrylawski,That's certainly your choice........Just know you could also spend that much on a Samsung and have Bluetooth and Wifi issues. If you ever go to their forums, you'll see that plenty of people do.

Oct 22, 2014 11:25 AM in response to deggieby MLaeeq,MacBook Pro
BMW Z4
iPad 4
iPhone 5
Samsung S4
Apple Tv
These are some of the devices that can find and see my phone nearby however my phone does not recognize them.. Is this Normal?

Oct 22, 2014 11:30 AM in response to MLaeeqby deggie,You can only pair with your MacBook Pro for purposes of tethering, i.e. connecting to the internet using the cell data connection on your iPhone. It is easier to use WiFi for this.
Pairing works on my BMW 528i, I do delete all previous iPhone pairings from the car before pairing a new device.
You can't pair with the iPad 4, 5 or the Samsung S4, iOS devices do not use the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) BT profile. There are some apps that use the PAN (Personal Area Network) BT profile to allow picture exchange (which you can now do with AirDrop) or play games between devices. You pair within the app itself not via Settings.
You can use the Remote app via Bluetooth with your Apple TV.

MacBook Pro What version of OS X are you using. The iPhone will only connect to the MacBook for certain reasons.
BMW Z4 Have you checked with the dealer to see if there is an update for the vehicle. The iPhone came with the latest Bluetooth profile on it and it may be necessary for the vehicle system to be updated.
iPad 4 Again, it depends on what you are connecting for.
iPhone 5 Will only connect to another iPhone for limited reasons, and not generally through the Bluetooth menu
Samsung S4 Will not connect to other phones.
Apple Tv Cannot answer that one. Don't have an Apple TV.

Oct 22, 2014 11:43 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by MLaeeq,MacBook Pro - I have OSX Yosemite
BMW Z4 - the reset instructions on my user manual is wrong and i don't know any other way to reset it
iPad, iPhone and Samsung - I am not able to see the devices and i am not able to pair either.. even if it doesn't pair, iPhone 6 should still be able to detect it. Correct? For exmp - iPad can see my iPhone 6 nearby, when i try to pair the two devices i get an error saying unable to pair on my iPhone 6. Even if i am unable to pair, my iPhone 6 should show the iPad nearby
Apple TV - i use the remote app but i think it uses wifi to control your apple, not bluetooth?
What i am trying to determine is a way for me to test that my hardware is not defective. Is there a way to test the bluetooth to make sure it is working fine ? I don't have a bluetooth headset to try out.. Any suggestions?
-
Oct 22, 2014 11:51 AM in response to MLaeeqby ChrisJ4203,I am not aware of any foolproof method of testing. I would think that a headset would be the easiest. I agree the iPad and iPhone should at least "see" each other. What was the reason you returned the other on? You stated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Was it the same as you have stated here, or was it Bluetooth with the car? As far as the vehicle is concerned, I suggest again that you contact your BMW dealer for assistance.

Oct 22, 2014 11:58 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by MLaeeq,The one i returned before was for the same issue but at that time wifi was a bigger prob. I had not tested the bluetooth throughly but it wasn't working in my car. After i learned that the car system had to be reset if it has reached maximum number of devices, i tested out my iphone 6 with other devices and it seems like it just doesn't recognize any bluetooth devices nearby in general..
One thing that came in my mind just now was to try the air drop functionality and see if it works. I think it uses bluetooth. I will probably try with my iPad 4 and try to share some photos thru air drop and see if it works
