Java Control Panel doesn't load in OS X Yosemite

I would like to change my security preferences for some Java applets' websites. I thus went to System Preferences > Java. A window popped up saying it was going to open the Java Control Panel in a separate window. A new icon with the Java symbol opened in the dock, presumably trying to open the Java Control Panel, but it failed to do so. Instead a "Reopen the Java Control Panel" option showed up. However, clicking on it only repeats the procedure and the control panel never opens.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this, if fixable? I recently updated to OS X Yosemite and Java JDK 8u25.

Thanks.
