Q: iPhone 5 Bluetooth with MacBook Pro

Why won't my iPhone 5S will not connect via bluetooth to my MacBook Pro?

I downloaded OS X Yosemite to the MBP and iOS 8.1 to the iPhone 5S.

Can somebody give me suggestions how how to correct this please ?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.3)

For what regarding SMS, i have enabled them in Messages option on the iPhone.

Settings --> Messages --> "Text Message Forwarding". Here is listed my Macbook PRO, i enable it and suddenly i receive a verification code on it. I write that code on the iphone and the trick is done.

for what concerning Phone calls, go to

Settings --> Facetime --> iphone cellular Calls set to enabled.

Both the devices must be in the same network (WIFI o ETH doesn't matter), i've enabled the phone call forwarding for:

    - cell phone number-

    - gmail account (the same i use for icloud)

    - icloud account, that actually i don't use at all

now, move on your Macbook. open facetime, go to > Preferences > check iPhone Cellular Calls

At this point everything should be ok. If not, the step i performed was to disable icloud account on iphone, disabled icloud account on MBP, rebooted both the devices, then enable icloud account on both of them and everything was working as expected.

    Give me a feedback

    Thanks for all of this.

I followed the instructions for the SMS and have not received a code on my MBP. Could it be because the iPhone and MBP can not connect via bluetooth ?

    What do you think?

    No for sure.

As I stated before also my devices can't be used over BT. Make sure they're on the same network. I also suggest you to not keep the mac connected to the eth and wifi at the same time. Try just with the eth cable.

i Installed Yosemite as new OS and not updating maverick.

They don't need to connect via bluetooth. They just need to be on the same network.

Ok I have a early 2011 MBP that I just updated to Yosemite and a iPhone 5s that I updated to iOS 8.1.

I want to take advantage of the new features such AS Make and receive phone calls and SMS Texting.

So can I do that with my current MBP ?

Because my MBP is early 2011 I can not connect via Bluetooth ?

Your Mac can support phone calls and SMS texting, it is stated so right in the article. What it won't do is support "Handoff" and "Instant Hotspot", but you're not inquiring about those features.

If it is not working, you do not initiate Bluetooth pairing to get it to work.  There are some things you need to try:

    - Read this article (disregard Handoff and Instant Hotspot):

Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite

    - Not mentioned in the article, but seems to help many users:  In your iPhone's settings for Messaging, make sure you have your Apple ID email selected as an address that you can be reached at, in addition to your phone number.  You may need to sign out of iMessage and sign back in.

    - On your iPhone, go to FaceTime settings and turn on "iPhone Cellular Calls".

Who is the person I am texting via my MBP getting the text from ? My cell# or my iCloud ID ?

Why? The hardware in your Mac does not support it so what is the issue?

If the article posted by is true i have a Macbook Pro late 2008 whilest the article states that the minimum version of the MBP should be at least Mid 2012 or later.

Anyway, for a 6-years old Macbook Pro i think that i should be more than satisfied, i can still run up to date OS and software with incredible performances (i just pdated my HDD with an SSD)
