duplicate files

i just figured out that itunes has a whole lot of duplicate song files. is there and easy way for me to find all of the duplicates so that i can delete them?

emac 700MHz G4, Mac OS X (10.3.7)

Hello,

Yes, just go to your music library or playlists and then go to the "View" menu, and choose "Show Duplicates".

All your duplicate songs will be grouped together.

Delete all the duplicates, but be sure to leave one of them so you don't delete your original.

You might also look at the many useful Applescripts found at Doug's Applescripts for iTunes page. In particular is the one to "corral duplicates"...

Basically it finds all tunes it thinks may be duplicates and sticks them into their own playlist. You can then go in and review them and delete the ones that truly are duplicates and not simply other versions of the same song.
