iPod Headphone Jack, Fixable?

Hi,

I have a 80GB iPod Classic. Recently I have noticed that when listening to music with headphones, the music is only playing in the right ear. Same thing when my iPod is connected in the car through an auxiliary cable, the music only plays through the right speaker. When connected to a dock everything works fine, meaning that it is the headphone jack that is the problem.

Does anyone know if this is fixable and if so, how much roughly would this cost at an Apple Store? I had hoped to replace this iPod with a new 160GB Classic but I just found out yesterday that Apple in their infinite wisdom have decided to discontinue them. I'm really not up for buying a 64GB iPod Touch so would prefer to hang on to my Classic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeffrey

I have the 30 GB 5th Gen iPod and replaced both battery and the headphone jack myself for very little money (around $15) with easy to follow instructions. I bought the parts on Amazon and followed instructions on iFixit.com (link will bring up iPod Classic instructions). It was easy to do and it still works. Check it out and see if this will be an option for you. The battery is holding up well and the audio jack works flawlessly.
