JAVA MACBOOK PRO

I am having problems with websites that are using JAVA Applets. I get the the "coffee cup" symbol, but that is it. I have been unable to figure this out. Is there a setting or a download I need?

macbook pro Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Have you installed/updated to the latest version of Java ?

In your browser Preferences is Java enabled/allowed ?

as far as i an tell the laptop is current with everything. Everything is enabled. i have also tried ROSETTA. i am downloading the java2 beta. and will let you know

JavaBETA 2 does not install...

"you cannot install J2SE 5.0 release 1 package on this volume
this volume contains a newer version of java 1.5

Hmmm there's a release 4 now but I don't think that's the issue.

The odd thing is, even though I have 1.4.2 and 1.5 installed, when I check using the Java web site ( http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml) it says I'm on version 1.3.1

went through all websites and none worked and acknowledged that what is in machine is current.

here's a dumb question, i am using safari can this be an issye?and if so than what

I have the same problem. It is a frustrating deal, and nothing has resolved it.

I have some work issues with the this basic non-functionality that may force me to go back to PC.

Any new fixes orr ideas?
