Screen orientation not going to landscape

I have an iPhone 6 Plus with IOS 8.1 - new out of the box last night.

My home screen will not orient to horizontal on the home screen. I do not have the orientation lock set. Any recommendations?

Notice the lock is not set, and the image on the right is what my screen looks like in landscape. I'm holding my phone upright and rotating.

My office mate does the same exact thing and his screen rotates to landscape and even to inverted portrait.
