Q: iCloud Drive on my iOS devices

I upload a file from my Mac onto the iCloud drive, how do I access it from my iOS devices? Where is the file browser?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.2

In my view iCloud Drive is a total mess. On the Apple website it clearly states that any files can be stored on iCloud Drive and accessed from all your devices. Before everyone shoots me down here, I know that there is no file system as such and that files are associated with apps. However, on the same page on Apple's website they CLEARLY show something that looks like a file browser running on an iPad. To my knowledge this simply does not exist. I complained to Apple about this and was told they realised this page is misleading and would have it corrected. That was weeks ago and nothing has happened; the page is still the same.

 

Apple need to step up the plate here and sort this mess out. The best thing they could do is dump iCloud Drive completely and go buy Dropbox.

    To access your iCloud Drive files from your iOS devices, you would open them from within an app that supports that file type and iCloud Drive, as outlined below:

     

    How do I access all my files in iCloud Drive?

    You can access your files in iCloud Drive any of these ways:

    Using any supported web browser, you can go to iCloud Drive or iWork for iCloud beta at iCloud.com. In iWork for iCloud beta, you can find your Pages, Numbers, and Keynote files.

    On your Mac with OS X Yosemite, you can go to iCloud Drive in Finder.

    On your PC with Windows 7 or later and iCloud for Windows 4.0, you can go to iCloud Drive in File Explorer.

    On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8, you can access your files from Apple apps like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, or any apps that support iCloud Drive.

    How do I know what I have on my iCloud drive? I went to icloud.com on my iPhone and I wasn't able to find a file browser.

    Tthere is no file browser.

    if it is a word processor document, open pages.

    If it is a spreadsheet file, open numbers.

    What type of file are you looking for?

    In this case, your file must be the one that's not supported by any app on your iPhone. You should download and install an app that both support iCloud drive and the file type you've uploaded to your iCloud drive. You know, not every file is supported by the pre-installed app on your iPhone. Don't worry about that file you've saved in iCloud drive. I'm pretty sure it is there.
