Q: Yosemite has no sort by name in Mail

Yosemite has what I would say is a bug- it is certainly at least a dropped feature.

I'm sure that most people view mail sorted by date as do I.  But sometimes I want to view all mail from a particular sender.  All previous versions of mail allowed you to simply click on any mail in the inbox and then simply click the "sort by name" tab at the top to see all letters sorted by name, beginning with the selected email.  Now in Yosemite, instead of beginning with the selected email, it instead starts at "A" or "Z" ignoring the selected email.  I would suggest that this is helpful to exactly nobody.  I'm hoping this is just a bug/oversight that will be quickly fixed.  "Sort by name" is king of important to those of who are heavy users.

And yes, I understand that I can do a search.  But this brings up every email that even mentions the sender and searching and then sorting is super cumbersome compared to the one click method that has seemingly been abandoned.  Hoping there's a fix in sight!

I don't know if feel good or bad because I have the same issue and was trying to find an answer to solve it and was in touch with some blogs and the response is to use the "search" option which isn't acceptable and less because I have 5 mailboxes with more than 15,000 emails, so you may imagine the amount os results of one single name!!!!

THIS IS REALLY A REASON WHY I MIGHT RETURN TO MAVERICKS!!,

Im not so happy with Yosemite but THIS is a gold option for me..

Where can we ask Apple to solve that???

There is no solution. It is an annoying bug with Yosemite (in my book it is a bug if a previous useful functionality no longer works - a kinder description is "oversight")

    Give feedback to Apple (.../feedback/macosx.html)

PLEASE people... see the very first top post in this page of this thread.

Please pick up this discussion here: Yosemite has no sort by name in Mail App

Having this discussion over different threads lessens the apparent reaction to the issue.  I'd like Apple to hear it and although I suspect they're completely deaf (nobody from Apple will even admit respond to if they consider this an issue) the best chance is for the thread to get noticed.  Please follow the link above and PLEASE send feedback!

    Thanks

O.k. I just sent in feedback to Apple begging for a fix.  I waited forever to upgrade to Yosemite b/c I worry about those initial annoying bugs.  Thought by now I was safe and then this!  I am totally annoyed by it.  I would use that sort option probably 10x a day to quickly locate an email from someone I was recently talking to and I wanted to see the email train.  I do NOT want to have to use the looking glass, type in their name, select it and hope that I can find what I need.  It is no where near as efficient.  If you have this problem PLEASE go to Apple directly and send it in as a bug.  I don't think they will know otherwise.  We need more, more, more people to complain.

Should continue this at Yosemite has no sort by name in Mail App

But for anyone looking for a simple solution. If you click 'From' column it will then sort all by alphabetic order, then up arrow (or down) you will arrive at your message. It works but it is a bug I think. Please fix Apple!
