Q: Sluggish/Jittery Magic Mouse after Yosemite

Since upgrading to Yosemite, my magic mouse is sluggish, sometimes unresponsive, and jitters across the screen. It's not like this all the time. It can go a day or so with no problems. Then, the problems start up. The only way to fix it is to go to a full restart and then just hope it doesn't happen again soon.

It's not a battery issue. It has new batteries installed. It's not a connectivity issue. It rarely if ever gets the "lose connectivity" issue anymore.

I'm running the 2012 15" rMBP and everything is fully up to date.

Had the exact same problem.... re-paired the mouse and nothing worked....then I stumbled on a site where they were talking about disabling something with the bluetooth and talking about interference from the router. My apple router was within 3' away and in line with my desktop so I tried moving it 4' higher up on a shelf and I couldn't believe it was that easy. Mouse now works like it should. Apparently the wifi and bluetooth frequencies were interfering with each other.

Deleting 'Bluetooth PAN' from System Preferences > Network fixed this for me.

Deleting 'Bluetooth PAN' from System Preferences > Network unfortunately did nothing for me. I've tried pretty much everything, and it looks like the only alternative is to buy the expensive Magic Mouse 2.

    Hey there.

Just been reading through this post as my apple mouse was giving me issues.

    Really strange movement / behaviour.

Anyway - I just thought to check the optical receptor on the base of the mouse.

And I noticed a really tiny almost invisible feather had got in there. (the kind that are used in coats)

I removed this, and the mouse started working again fine!

Just thought I'd say that its worth looking to see if anything has gotten stuck on the lens...

And give it a good clean.

    YMMV.

    But worth a try

    C

Started having the same issues.  Fortunately mine was fixed relatively quick based on posts in this thread and a little research.

I had just gone to a USB 3.0 HD for my Timecapsule.  I already had 2 x USB 3.0 Hubs, but they are far away from my Mac Mini so never encountered this issue.  The HD was right next to the Mini..  Found a few articles about Frequency Interference for USB 3.0

It may not necessarily be having a USB 3.0 connected, but how close it is to the PC or Bluetooth.  My HD only had an 18"  cable and even moving it as far away from the Mini as I could, out toward a back corner fixed the issue.  If it comes back, will just pick up a longer USB 3.0 cable.

    Good Luck!!!

Wow, thank you for the UPS tip!!!  I had two UPSes under my desk, and I moved them both about 3 feet further away.  Now my magic mouse now works like it should.

Same problem.  Mouse has worked fine for several years and started acting up.  Did all the recommended fixes, by accident tested it on another machine with similar results to verify it wasn't a software issue.  Put in on my dark wood desktop and it worked perfectly, tried it on both a glossy black binder cover and a glossy white binder cover with a color printed page underneath the plastic slip cover of the white one, same perfect results. Makes no sense given it use to work on any surface.

I would really like to know why this problem raises its ugly head after several years of excellent service.  Especially since there are no moving parts in this thing.  You would think it would last forever....but then Apple couldn't sell us new stuff and pad their pockets....
