Mac mini 2014 or 2012 for logic pro x

Hello Guyzzzz 🙂

I am a beginner in Logic pro ( But not for a long time 😉 ) and was wondering if i should get a 2012 mac mini with a quad core I7 or if the new mac mini dual core I 7 should be powerful enough for logic ?

And for sure with 16Gb ram and Fusion drive 1 tb.

I want to take the new mac mini for the only reason that it can handle 4k ... so maybe in few month if apple released a 4K display I will be able to plug it 🙂

Totally depends on what kind of projects you are doing. You can definitely do some things on the dual core but if it were me, I'd find one of the quads. Way faster for Logic and more bang for the buck as well.

Personally I'd also go for quad core - particularly if you're planning on using a bunch of virtual instruments and/or plug-ins

2012. More cores and you can put way more ram in with 3rd party ram at a cost that easily offsets the lower cost of the newer mini.

thank you guys ! I had the chance to find a mac mini server I7 quad on the refurbished store !!!! waiting for it now 🙂 alreay ordered the 16 gb ! And just checked the SSD prices from Crucial there are awesome haha !

I Just picked up a 2012 Mac Mini Server 17 2.3 ghz 2 TB HD from the refurb store , I needed to pick up a Mac to run logic X , pretty excited about my first Mac, I'll have it tomorrow, thanks for posting Q &As to help me find what I need to get the job done!

Hi,

how are you finding the new mac mini?

I have a chance to collect a 2012 MMS i7 2.3ghz & 2 * 1tb drives.

Would be used for Logic Pro only. Would be great to know if it is recommended.

(If not the MMS the it will be a macbook pro)
