How do I get Yahoo Messenger to work with OS X Yosemite?

Yahoo Messenger (YM) does not work with Yosemite; and Yahoo does not care! This is Yahoo's own ridiculous response to the problem. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/messenger/SLN24720.html

You can use Messenger to chat from inside Yahoo Mail; but it is not as user friendly as using Messenger directly in Mavericks. Of course, Webcam chats are no longer possible on Yosemite with Yahoo Messenger. One can easily move to Skype; but then you'd have to migrate all your contacts on YM, to Skype. All of your contacts in YM may not be on Skype. We do have a problem which Yahoo does not care about. No wonder the Company is losing ground against the competition.

I have tried this and manage to get the chat window open OK but don't see anywhere that I can use the Video Chat function - is this possible please?

I've tried logging in using my yahoo messenger account in Messages, but it keeps disconnecting... does this happen to everyone?

This is happening to me too - it acts like its working for a second then goes back to being disconnected.

Glad I'm not the only one having this problem. worked fine when I first added the account now it just says disconnected no matter what I try.

I found that if I disable IPv6 then Yahoo via the Messages app will stay connected, at least for a while. Here is what I did:
