iMac 5K Retina extremely slow Mission Control

Just got the base model iMac Retina 5K. Mission Control is extremely slow, and so far seems to be only part of the UI that lags. It can barely even animate. I know these are new and not yet proven, but even the worst integrated card can animate Mission Control smoothly on other Macs. I can't understand why it lags so badly. I don't want to just wait for an update while I'm in my return window, in case this is the potential of this card while driving this display, but I can't imagine that to be so.

I too have the problem. Two Apple reps have told me that Apple is unaware of the issue. I spent 30 hours following the instructions of an agent to MANUALLY restore my iMac back from factory settings which was a huge waste of time as the problem is still there. Apple don't seem very helpful in my case ... does anyone have an idea of a timeframe to fix this please?

I called them too. They tried to get me to reinstall the OS but I refused, saying that made no sense because it has happened since day 1 and it happens at the ones in the store. They said they were unaware of the issue. They're going to get back to me. Hopefully they have a solution, I feel pretty silly sitting here with one of the most expensive Macs that is slower than my 4 year old MacBook.

I feel the need to reiterate here as a lot of junk is starting to fill up this thread.

1. Apple is aware of the issue. Don't let them tell you otherwise.

2. I've gone as far as anyone can go with Apple senior staff to send logs, screen recordings, everything they insist upon.

3. Had a senior engineer confirm for me that indeed they can reproduce the issue, it is a related to certain applications and combinations of applications, and can and will be fixed in a future software update.

Please stop your amateur theorizing, as there is no reason to continue perpetrating the lie that you "need the 295x to have smooth mission control". That is preposterous and flat out inaccurate.

That is, at best, a really poor and amateur theory to run to. These graphics cards are not even in any other machines yet. AMD just released the first driver update, which is NOT available from Apple yet.

You really should know how these things work before spouting off wild theories like maybe Apple shipped a graphics card magically capable of running complex graphics tasks.....but not mission control.

I'm not directing this at you necessarily, but anyone else who comes here to post such unsubstantiated nonsense.

One thing I've tried that honestly does seem to have helped is to install ClickToFlash in Safari. It hasn't entirely eliminated the gradual slowdown of the UI's responsiveness between reboots — but it does seem to me that Flash content (maybe even just Flash video on YouTube etc) exacerbated the problem. Delighted to hear that a proper fix is coming.

I cloned my old iMac (10.10.1) via SuperDuper and Firewire to my new i5 Retina iMac. Window movement on the new iMac was extremely jerky when moving windows to the right side of the screen. The Dock was very jerky too, almost jumped on screen instead of sliding in.

After reinstalling 10.10.1 from the rescue system all the symptoms are gone and my iMac works fine. However mission control still is jerky.
