Yosemite SMS continuity problems to an android phone

Hello,

I am experiencing issues when I send SMS messages from Yosemite to a friend with an Android cell phone. The problem has manifested itself in two ways: (1) sometimes text messages are clipped and do not go through in their entirety and (2) a longer message will be broken up into many separate texts even though none of the separate texts are anywhere near the limit for characters in an SMS text message. I have an iPhone 5 and a 2013 rMBP both with up to date software.
