That adapter is for connecting a VGA display to a computer's DVI port.
If your computer has the ATI Rage 128 graphics card it will have one DVI port and one VGA port. It won't run both ports simultaneously.
If the display has a DVI plug, plug it into the computer's DVI port. No special cable or adapter is needed, but the computer may not support the resolution of the 23".
If the display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
you will also need a DVI to ADC adapter

Oct 25, 2014 11:11 AM in response to Malcolm J. Rayfieldby silka,The Apple Cinema Display 23-inch LCD mother connector cable splits into 4:
- DVI-D
- two-port
- firewire
- self powered USB hub
If the display has a DVI plug, plug it into the computer's DVI port. No special cable or adapter is needed,
YES, it has a DVI-D plug, but it doesn't fit. if this would be the case why would I ask... PLease also remember I got a G3 not a G4....
Guess I am back to zero

Nov 8, 2014 4:19 AM in response to silkaby Jeff Shenk,Since your G3 has only an analog output and your display has only a digital input, there won't be a simple cable solution.
I have no experience with this, but I see that Monoprice does sell an adapter to do what you want. I am not sure that it wouldn't make more sense to look into changing either the monitor to a compatible one, or changing the graphic card to one with a DVI output.
