App Store problem in Yosemite

Hello,

I downloaded Yosemite on my MacBook Air and iMac (not the 5K !) from the latest edition.

When it's done, I've got a BIG problem. My App Store in completely not working ! It doesn't recognize my bought apps, it doesn't show anything on updates, only a grey screen... and images are missing in applications presentation : the logo is here but the big image on the right of the image doesn't show up. I can't receive any notification from the App Store. I was very angry and tried to lunch the App Store via Terminal. Here are the results :

The Mac App Store works perfectly here, as it has since day one. As it has for millions world-wide.

Hi Mø†hə®BΦ@rđ11 (MotherBoard11),

I've had various issues since upgrading my MBP (Retina) to Yosemite, including the blank/ non-responsive App Store problem it appears you're experiencing.

I solved it as follows -

  • turn off MBP, then turn it back on while holding down the [cmd] + [R] keys (this takes you to the recovery area),
  • select the option to re-install OS-X,
  • follow the prompts and Yosemite will be reinstalled (this did not overwrite any of my data, but you may want to back up first).

I still had the 'delayed progress bar' during the re-install, but left it to finish and all now appears to be okay.

This solution worked for me and it may work for you too.

Phil.

Hi NCIceman,

I have to say sadly, in the end my MBP didn't stay fixed, but began to veer off-piste within a few days and ultimately became unusable again. I think I tracked the route of the problem down to McAfee internet security conflicting with the Yosemite install and also afterwards (I think v3.3 is required). In the end I had to re-format my data drive and re-install Yosemite afresh through the Recovery Utilities (hold down [cmd] and [R] on boot up). Note you will lose any data and on the drive, so back-up first!

It looks like this has finally cured my MBP, but only time will tell. If this isn't the permanent fix, it may be a hardware issue.

I found a useful article here, Link: When good Macs go bad: Steps to take when your Mac won't start up | Macworld

There's also a fair bit of forum discussion about the Yosemite/ McAfee conflicts too.

Phil.

this worked for me

Mac App Store: Unresponsive after clicking Updates icon

The Mac App Store may become unresponsive after clicking the Updates icon at the top of the App Store window.

Certain third-party Mac NTFS software and/or connected partitions with versions of Microsoft Windows that contain the NTFS filesystem may cause this issue. Follow these steps:

  1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
  2. From the View menu, choose Spotlight.
  3. Click the Privacy tab and then the "+" sign to add your NTFS filesystems, partitions or connected drives.
If you're using Boot Camp, select your BOOTCAMP drive or partition from the sidebar on the left side of the folder selection sheet, then click Choose, to prevent this issue from occurring.

Some third-party NTFS utilities have their own System preferences that will also allow you to perform the same function as using the Privacy tab of the Spotlight preferences, or will allow you to temporarily disable them.

Once the connected NTFS resource is excluded in the Spotlight preferences, the Mac App Store should remain responsive when you click the Updates icon.

Adding App Store to "Allowed" list in firewall worked for me (System Preference>Firewall>Firewall Options. Add App Store from the Application list. Set it to "Allow Incoming connections"). If you have an antivirus, add App Store to both Allowed Incoming and Outgoing connections. It goes blank/gray because it the app can't communicate to the internet properly. Once allowed, it connects and displays the content.

Hi!

The Mac App Store is a joke. Have been complete crap since Apple decided to give up the normal update service. The old one always worked just fine. No duplicates and other weird random crap that irritates you.

Why isn't there a Updates on the Apple Menu instead of the App Store one?

This is how it looks for me everytime there is an bloddy update available. So sick of this crap.

All of a sudden I was having the same problem of no access to the app store, it went on for weeks while I seek different solutions. Finally, I simply quit all my apps, repaired permission on my main boot disk, then Select shutdown from my Apple menu, unchecked " Re-open windows when logging back in" let the Mac shut down completely, wait five minutes then restart my Mac. I believe the most important part is unchecking that checkbox during the shutdown process. Everything seems to be working fine now, Mac store is completely accessible and I was able to update and access the store.

Unfortunately I cannot retest this so if y'all are still having issues with a blank app store, if y'all can try and let me and others know if this is actually good fix for everyone.
